Unfortunately, the minimum spend was a hefty S$15,000, which given the card\u2019s poor earn rates, would carry a significant opportunity cost.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, American Express has been sweetening the deal in recent weeks. At the start of September, it <a href=\"https:\/\/milelion.com\/2026\/09\/03\/amex-platinum-charge-cuts-minimum-spend-for-100000-miles-welcome-offer\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cut the minimum spend<\/a> to <strong>S$10,000,\u00a0<\/strong>and now it\u2019s throwing in\u00a0an extra <strong>S$300 eCapitaVoucher,<\/strong> on top of the bonus points, for both new and existing AMEX customers.<\/p>\n<h2>AMEX Platinum Charge new welcome offer<\/h2>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; <em>\u2013 *This exclusion does not apply to The Centurion\u00ae Card and The Platinum <\/em><\/span><em><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Card\u00ae<\/span><\/em><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">v) Charges at merchants or establishments that are excluded by American Express at its <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">sole discretion and notified by American Express to you from time to time. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>For the avoidance of doubt, CardUp, private and non-profit hospital bills, charitable donations, education, and anything else not explicitly stated in the exclusion list <strong>will<\/strong> count as eligible spend.\u00a0While American Express added <a href=\"https:\/\/milelion.com\/2023\/08\/15\/american-express-adding-charitable-donations-and-education-to-rewards-exclusion-list\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charitable donations and education<\/a> to its exclusions list on 1 October 2023, an exception was carved out for the AMEX Platinum Charge.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you plan to use CardUp to meet the minimum spend, do note that there are <a href=\"https:\/\/milelion.com\/2024\/02\/05\/explained-american-express-restrictions-on-cardup-payments\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">certain restrictions<\/a> on the types of payments that can be made with an AMEX card.<\/p>\n<p>Spending by both principal and supplementary cardholders will be combined when determining whether the minimum spend threshold has been met.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>When will bonus MR points be credited?<\/h2>\n<p>Officially, you can expect to receive the bonus MR points within <strong>12 weeks<\/strong> of meeting the eligibility criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Unofficially, however, American Express is much faster with the fulfillment. You should receive 100,000 bonus MR points once the S$10,000 qualifying spend posts, and a further 100,000 bonus MR points upon spending S$1 in the 15th month.<\/p>\n<h2>Terms &amp; Conditions<\/h2>\n<p>The T&amp;Cs of the new-to-AMEX and existing AMEX customer welcome offer can be found here.<\/p>\n<h2>What can you do with Membership Rewards points?<\/h2>\n<p>Membership Rewards points can be transferred to eight airline and two hotel partners at the following rates.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, there was a <a href=\"https:\/\/milelion.com\/2026\/01\/22\/american-express-membership-rewards-devalues-airline-miles-conversions\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">significant devaluation<\/a> to Membership Rewards points\u00a0on 23 February 2026, which increased the cost of transfers to all eight airline partners by <strong>22-25% <\/strong>(or 44-50% for Emirates Skywards).
