Tour groups in matching caps, lines of coaches, queues for photographs beside Mao statues \u2013 what was once a school trip has become one of the most visible forms of domestic travel in China, and younger people are now driving much of it.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Red tourism is no longer about remembrance. First, they met under cover of a summer study group; then, they moved to a <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">shikumen<\/em> town house on Zingye Road, but had to flee when a French Concession police informant was spotted at the door. Eventually, the congress was completed on a boat on South Lake, in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province. Of the 13 men at that table, only two would stand overlooking Tiananmen Square in 1949, when the People\u2019s Republic was proclaimed.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Shanghai to Zunyi to Yanan to Tiananmen is a 28-year arc.
