Not every video game needs an anime adaptation, but Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice<\/b> is one that I can see working. Its version of Sengoku-era Japan, memorable characters and sword fights already gave FromSoftware plenty to build beyond a videogame world.<\/p>\n
The game follows Wolf, a shinobi tasked with protecting Kuro, the Divine Heir, against the backdrop of a fictionalised and considerably more supernatural interpretation of Sengoku-era Japan.<\/p>\n
Crunchyroll has confirmed that Sekiro: No Defeat<\/b> will begin streaming weekly in January 2027<\/b>, with the anime running for eight episodes. It will be available exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, except in Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus. Singapore viewers will therefore be able to watch it.<\/p>\n
The anime was first announced in 2025 and is currently screening as a theatrical release in Japan, where its original three-week run has been extended due to popular demand. Perhaps more importantly for us, the episodic version will include additional content that isn\u2019t shown in cinemas.<\/p>\n
Sekiro: No Defeat is being produced by Kadokawa, Qzil.la and ARCH, with Kenichi Kutsuna directing and Takuya Satou writing the screenplay. Crunchyroll says the production is fully hand-drawn too. Daisuke Namikawa, Miyuki Satou and Kenjiro Tsuda will also reprise their respective roles as Wolf, Kuro and Genichiro Ashina.<\/p>\n
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has sold more than 10 million copies since its launch in 2019. In our review of the game, we called it a \u201cbewitching test of skill\u201d and praised its extraordinary combat, level design and player mobility.<\/p>\n
