{"id":8856,"date":"2025-11-04T18:38:34","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T10:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=8856"},"modified":"2025-11-04T18:38:34","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T10:38:34","slug":"fake-investment-platform-immediate-era-which-used-images-of-singapore-leaders-under-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=8856","title":{"rendered":"Fake investment platform Immediate Era, which used images of Singapore leaders, under investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 A scam operation is being investigated by the police after it used deceptive images of Singaporean leaders including Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and fictitious reports allegedly by mainstream news outlets to deceive Singapore residents into making fraudulent investments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The police said on Nov 4 that reports have been lodged against the Immediate Era investment platform and that investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Members of the public were reminded to be cautious when responding to investment-related advertisements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The fraudulent activities of Immediate Era were flagged in October by cyber security firm Group-IB, which found that the platform was engaging in large-scale scam activity linked to a forex investment platform in Mauritius.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">According to an expose published by Group-IB, the platform used verified advertiser accounts appearing to only internet users on Singapore IP addresses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">These ads misappropriated images of Singapore leaders like PM Wong and Coordinating Minister for National Security K. Shanmugam to create an illusory veil of compliance while promoting lucrative investment returns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Checks on multiple platforms showed the Immediate Era platform also showed fake ties with Singapore personalities like Razer founder Tan Min-Liang or former DBS chief executive officer Piyush Gupta.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"landscape inline-media-wrapper\" data-testid=\"inline-media-test-id\">\n<div class=\"flex flex-col items-start relative w-fit\"><picture><source media=\"(max-width: 480px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/397a4a34253d5fb6faba0489c053a8cb2be7ac29bf26af45699852ac7bba7eb1?w=480\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 720px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/397a4a34253d5fb6faba0489c053a8cb2be7ac29bf26af45699852ac7bba7eb1?w=720\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 721px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/397a4a34253d5fb6faba0489c053a8cb2be7ac29bf26af45699852ac7bba7eb1?w=900\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/397a4a34253d5fb6faba0489c053a8cb2be7ac29bf26af45699852ac7bba7eb1\" alt=\"\" class=\"aspect-landscape flex items-start shrink-0 object-cover landscape article-landscape mobile:w-screen tablet:w-auto\" data-testid=\"image-test-id\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/picture><\/div><figcaption class=\"mobile:mx-16 tablet:mx-00 flex flex-col gap-08 py-16 desktop:pb-24\">\n<p class=\"font-eyebrow-baseline-regular text-secondary\" data-testid=\"inline-media-caption-test-id\">The Immediate Era platform used deceptive images of Singapore leaders and personalities, and fictitious reports allegedly by mainstream news outlets to deceive Singapore residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-eyebrow-baseline-regular text-placeholder\" data-testid=\"inline-media-credit-test-id\">PHOTOS: GROUP-IB<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The platform could be reached through malicious Google Ads that appeared across platforms including Gmail, Maps and YouTube, and were registered to at least 28 verified advertiser accounts whose owners were based in Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, Argentina and Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A user who clicked on an ad promoting the scam would be directed to a page designed to evade Google\u2019s detection algorithms before being taken to fictitious news pages made to look like legitimate ones with \u201creports\u201d featuring the reputable Singapore personalities and the Immediate Era platform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Contact information would be solicited, with a manufactured sense of urgency and false messaging claiming the rewards were for Singapore nationals only.
