An Indonesian woman who got accepted into Singapore Management University (SMU) has sought funding from people online, she said in a Threads post on Saturday (Sept 19).<\/p>\n
Evelyn Clarissa Siregar shared that she was accepted to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) full-time programme for January 2027, but needs to secure the tuition fees in less than three months.<\/p>\n
“I secured a $3,000 discount on tuition fees, but no\u2026 it’s far from enough,” she wrote in her post.<\/p>\n
She needs $82,480 in total, excluding living expenses in Singapore which she estimates to be between $2,000 and $2,500 per month.<\/p>\n
“This post is a request for help,” <\/strong>Siregar said. “I am looking for sponsors.”<\/p>\n In return, she promises to pay back the amount in skills and experiences that she has \u2014 the same skills and experiences that she will refine in her MBA programme.<\/p>\n In particular, she highlights her skills in selling IT products between companies and connecting <\/strong>them with Indonesian businesses, as well as content creation.<\/p>\n “If you look at my journey, I always come in at the early phase [of business],” she said, sharing that she has helped smaller companies navigate their “messy early stages”.<\/p>\n She added: “Here’s one more fact about me: I’m 28, with no husband and no kids. I have absolutely nothing preventing me from soaring higher except for the funding.”<\/p>\n Her post has been panned, with one user describing her actions as “online begging”.<\/p>\n “Online begging but can afford for vacation to South Korea, play paddle, getting drunk, visiting Thailand , Malaysia… the audacity,” the user accused.<\/p>\n “Babygirl, make it make sense. The money you spent on entertainment can easily help with your funding if you don’t waste it on useless things like clubbing.”<\/p>\n The user, like others, also questioned why she has not chosen to work and save up for tuition.<\/p>\n She replied: “Not everyone has that privilege.
