It involved light, shadow and the movement of the moon. Using a round table for the Earth, a lamp for the sun and a mirror for the moon, she shifted them around until the shadows they cast made sense.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The result was <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">The Explanation of a Lunar Eclipse<\/em>, written at a time when astronomy required imperial permission and women-led scientific research was virtually unheard of.
