Qualcomm<\/b> has unveiled its new all-in audio chip for companies making earbuds, headphones, audio glasses, and virtually anything that puts audio and voice quality first. It\u2019s the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2<\/b>.<\/p>\n

As far as we can tell, this is the first time that Snapdragon Sound audio chipsets received an \u201cElite\u201d suffix (we looked at past offerings, its rebranded categorisation, and the 2021 reference phone). In our comparisons, we noticed the update adds several things (such as greater AI assistant support<\/b> and an extra connectivity stack<\/b>) that weren\u2019t in its previous audio solutions, which may help partly explain why it\u2019s now an Elite-class Snapdragon chip design.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Key features of the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 audio chip<\/h2>\n

While Qualcomm didn\u2019t announce what drives its sound quality beyond saying it\u2019s the same premium Snapdragon Sound experience, it did ensure the Snapdragon Elite Gen 2 supports a long list of audio codecs, protocols, and related perks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Besides having its own AptX Lossless, Qualcomm XPAN, a new 5th-generation Qualcomm ANC (active noise cancellation) technology,\u00a0 as well as the Qualcomm cVc package for multi-microphone support and speech capture, is further bolstered by Snapdragon Audio Sense Solution to improve its environmental hearing.<\/p>\n

The key upgrades centre on supporting its audio package. Qualcomm said the new chip has 2x greater AI capability than its predecessor <\/b>(Snapdragon S7 Gen 1), allowing Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 to run multiple \u201cintelligent experiences\u201d simultaneously. It also has 40% lower power consumption<\/b>, a 30% smaller footprint<\/b>, and has integrated micro-power Wi-Fi 6E<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The added AI is probably also why its onboard Adaptive ANC offers expanded listening modes<\/b>. Beyond the typical scenarios (full ANC, and AI-enhanced adaptive transparency that switches to ambient noise when needed), it also comes with AI audio personalisation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also added are Snapdragon Sound\u2019s App and Agents<\/b>, which allow third-party services and apps to be onboarded for direct on-chip compatibility. Qualcomm said it\u2019s already partnered with various audiophile-grade media playback services and technologies (Cinemo, Qobuz, and Roon), with MicroEJ compatibility for developers.<\/p>\n

This means the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 is an all-in-one solution for modern listening and music devices that can use voice to run AI agents.<\/p>\n

Its smaller size also lets manufacturers include the chip in a wide variety of audio products, including smart glasses, headphones, hearing devices, open-ear devices, and any form factors yet to exist.<\/p>\n
