{"id":86897,"date":"2026-09-22T09:58:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T01:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=86897"},"modified":"2026-09-22T09:58:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T01:58:09","slug":"car-driver-fails-to-give-way-to-sengkang-general-hospital-ambulance-with-sirens-on-along-cte-singapore-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=86897","title":{"rendered":"Car driver fails to give way to Sengkang General Hospital ambulance with sirens on along CTE , Singapore News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A single minute may mean the difference between life, death, or permanent disability during a medical emergency.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday (Sept 18), a car driver was seen not giving way to a Sengkang General Hospital emergency ambulance, which had its sirens flashing.<\/p>\n<p>A minute-long video of the incident, which happened at about 11.30pm along the Central Expressway&#8217;s Kampong Java Tunnel, was caught on a motorcyclist&#8217;s mounted camera.<\/p>\n<p>The video shows the blue car driving in front of the ambulance and maintaining its speed.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the video, the traffic was light, and the driver had several opportunities to move away from the rightmost lane.<\/p>\n<p>The motorcyclist was even seen riding up next to the car to signal for the driver to change lanes.<\/p>\n<p>It took nearly a full-minute before the driver finally did so.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"314\" width=\"560\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1982076969149536%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" allowfullscreen=\"\">\u00a0<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The video, which was shared with SG Road Vigilante and posted on its Facebook page, has received more than 270,000 views since it was posted on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the video being wrongly or mistakenly captioned as the ambulance tailgating the car, most comments left by Facebook users were against the car driver&#8217;s behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Many also recognised the need to give way to emergency vehicles with their sirens on.<\/p>\n<p>Failing to give way to emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire appliances, or police vehicles is an offence under the Road Traffic Act.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers of light vehicles caught doing so could be fined up to $150 and receive four demerit points.<\/p>\n<p>AsiaOne has reached out to the police to check if a report was lodged against the car driver.<\/p>\n<p>For certain medical conditions such as heart attack, stroke, severe infection, excessive bleeding, or neurological emergencies, every minute matters.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor Marcus Ong, a senior consultant, director of research, and clinician scientist at the Singapore General Hospital&#8217;s Department of Emergency Medicine, said in a 2017 Singapore Civil Defence Force press release that every minute saved has the potential to improve the overall patient survival outcome.<\/p>\n<p>[[nid:745722]]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/mailto:editor@asiaone.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">editor@asiaone.com<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/mitsubishi-driver-fail-give-way-ambulance-cte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article At Source <\/a><br \/>\n<center\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A single minute may mean the difference between life, death, or permanent disability during a medical emergency.
