Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em>, the “massive free-to-play combat arena” game, is moving on from last-generation platforms. Alongside the announcement of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4<\/em> back in May, Activision announced that Warzone<\/em> will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.<\/p>\n

Support for Warzone<\/em> on PS4 and Xbox One will come to an end shortly after the launch of season 1 of Modern Warfare 4. The next mainline Call of Duty game launches on Oct. 23. Warzone will still be playable on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.<\/p>\n

Activision and the Call of Duty teams ending support for Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em> on PS4 and Xbox One won’t come as much of a surprise to players on those platforms. After all, Modern Warfare 4<\/em> is also leaving last-gen consoles behind \u2014 this year’s mainline Call of Duty game is bound for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.<\/p>\n

Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em> will continue to exist on current-gen platforms. Beginning with season 1 of Modern Warfare 4<\/em>, Warzone will “integrate Modern Warfare 4<\/em> content and seasonal progression as part of a connected experience between both titles,” a post attributed to Call of Duty Staff reads.<\/p>\n

Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em> is no longer available for new downloads on PS4 and Xbox One, though existing players can continue playing the game until MW4<\/em> season 1 launches. In June, the in-game store for Warzone<\/em> on PS4 and Xbox One will be removed. Players will still be able to progress through free Battle Pass tiers, including unlocking new weapons in remaining Black Ops 7<\/em> seasons, the Call of Duty team says.<\/p>\n

Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em> originally launched in 2020 as a free-to-play battle royale game set in the Call of Duty franchise. That version of the game shut down in 2023, after its replacement, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0<\/em>, launched. The 2022 version of Warzone<\/em> ultimately dropped the “2.0” branding to become, simply, Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em>.<\/p>\n
