A 57-year-old man was apprehended after he fell from the 12th floor of a HDB block in Ang Mo Kio on Sunday (Sept 20) evening.<\/p>\n
The incident happened at Block 645 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 at about 3.30pm.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Residents in the area told AsiaOne that he was not behaving normally and appeared to be incoherent.\u00a0<\/p>\n
An elderly resident, who lives at the adjacent block, told AsiaOne that he had attempted to enter her son’s house on the 12th floor of the block.<\/p>\n
“My son was not at home and only my grandson was in when he tried to enter their flat. So my son told him (grandson) to lock the door and wait for him,” said the 65-year-old, who did not wish to be named.<\/p>\n
According to the resident, the man then allegedly sat on the ledge.<\/p>\n
Videos shared with AsiaOne by eyewitnesses show two safety life air packs deployed on the ground.<\/p>\n
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers are seen working on the rooftop, above where the man is sitting, and along the corridor of the 11th floor.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, police officers could be seen talking to him from both ends of the corridor.<\/p>\n
At times, the half-clothed man did not appear to be steady and almost lost his balance on at least two occasions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The police told AsiaOne that responding officers found him sitting on the ledge outside a residential unit.<\/p>\n
Officers from the Crisis Negotiation Unit were also activated as it was assessed that he might pose a danger to himself, the police said.<\/p>\n
They added that he jumped off the ledge at about 6.20pm and landed on the safety life air pack.<\/p>\n
He was then taken conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where was subsequently apprehended under Section 7(1) of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Under the Act, the police have the power to arrest anyone believed to be a danger to himself or other people.<\/p>\n
