Dyson recently announced not one, not two but 10 new products<\/b>. But the more interesting news for me, however, is that the company is turning one robot vacuum into an entire family.<\/p>\n
The new Dyson Robot Nurovi range supercedes the older Spot+Scrub AI and comprises three models: the new flagship R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV<\/b>, the R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry<\/b> and the vacuum-only R1 Nurovi Dry<\/b>. If the existing Spot+Scrub AI felt like Dyson dipping its toes in new waters, this broader line-up suggests it now intends to compete more seriously in the robot vacuum market. As a reminder, I reviewed the Dyson Spot+Scrub AI only recently and found plenty to like about it. Despite its chunky robot design and a couple of kinks, its object detection and wet roller mopping were excellent.<\/p>\n
The new Nurovi range isn\u2019t exactly a complete redesign of that machine, however. The R3, for instance, despite looking entirely the same as the original Spot+Scrub AI but in a white coat, retains several of its features, including the self-cleaning roller, 40mm-extending mop and bagless cyclonic dock. The more meaningful upgrades are found in its stain detection capability, heated-water system and suction power \u2013 it combines ultraviolet light, AI-powered vision and green illumination to locate dirt that may be difficult to see under normal lighting. The existing Spot+Scrub AI already uses an HD camera and green light to recognise more than 200 objects, substances and stains, but the R3 adds UV illumination to reveal marks that would otherwise remain invisible.<\/p>\n R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry robot vacuum<\/p>\n Photo: Dyson<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry is arguably the more unusual addition. Instead of the roller found on both the Spot+Scrub AI and R3, it uses a pair of Reuleaux triangle-shaped mopping pads. These move in an eccentric pattern and are intended to produce a squarer cleaning path, helping the robot reach deeper into corners where circular pads tend to leave a small untouched area. It also introduces what Dyson says is an acoustic piezo sensor that measures dust levels and identifies different floor types, allowing the R2 to adjust its suction and cleaning behaviour automatically.<\/p>\n Pricing wise, the R2 is available from Dyson stores and Dyson\u2019s Singapore website for S$1,199<\/b> now.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re one of the rare few not looking for mopping features, there\u2019s the R1 Nurovi Dry. It carries over the R2\u2019s Twin-capture system but is designed purely for vacuuming, with up to 21,000Pa<\/b> of suction. The company also showed the W1 PencilWash wet floor cleaner,<\/b> two new HushJet air purifiers,<\/b> the Corrale CoolShine straightener (S$449) <\/b>and its first dedicated hot-air brush, the Airsmooth (S$329)<\/b>. The floor cleaner and air purifiers will be available in October with pricing to be made available later. And then, of course, there is the Dyson CameraJet, the S$699 electric toothbrush we covered earlier.
