A resident has shed more light on the state of greenery in the Tampines GreenCourt estate, describing it as \u201ca good problem to have\u201d.<\/p>\n
Stomper Park Lim<\/strong> shared his thoughts after reading an earlier Stomp article in which a resident expressed disappointment over damaged pillars and browning vegetation<\/a> at Block 630B Tampines North Drive 2.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s becoming brown court instead of green court,\u201d the resident had complained about the park in front of her block.<\/p>\n Park Lim, however, feels it is important to share more context to the issue.<\/p>\n \u201cTo be fair, the park did not become \u2018botak\u2019 for no reason,\u201d he noted. \u201cIt is heavily used every day, which is actually a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n This is especially so after this year\u2019s World Cup tournament<\/a>, which led to a surge in football\u2019s popularity.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are kids playing, coaches conducting lessons and residents having matches at the park regularly,\u201d said the Stomper, who moved into the estate in 2023.<\/p>\n \u201cOn top of that, people walk and train their dogs, dogs gather here at night, families picnic, children fly kites, and residents cycle, jog and use the park for all kinds of activities.\u201d<\/p>\n Park Lim acknowledged that the recent dry and hot weather probably contributed to the park\u2019s decline, but said heavy daily usage \u201chas definitely taken a toll on the grass\u201d.<\/p>\n He shared before-and-after photos showing the park with green lawns when it just opened three years ago and how it currently has \u201cextensive yellow-brown patches\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThe trees are still\u00a0green, but much of the grass has clearly seen better days,\u201d said Park Lim.<\/p>\n This is exactly why maintenance should be stepped up, he pointed out.<\/p>\n \u201cResidents pay conservancy charges every month, so if the park is being used this heavily, the maintenance plan should reflect that,\u201d the Stomper added.<\/p>\n \u201cIncreased watering and grass replacement are good plans, but hopefully they are not just plans \u2014 they need to be implemented consistently.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Park Lim, the park did not turn brown overnight, and the wear and tear has been building up for \u201cquite some time\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cIn short, the park is \u2018botak\u2019 because people actually love using it \u2014 which is a good problem to have,\u201d he told Stomp. \u201cBut if GreenCourt is slowly turning into BrownCourt, then perhaps it is time to give the grass a little more help.\u201d<\/p>\n Tampines Town Council<\/a> previously said it\u00a0has stepped up watering where needed and will continue to monitor the plants\u2019 condition closely, including replacing plants where necessary.<\/p>\n It is also addressing the pillars with chipped corners at the estate and carrying out\u00a0rectification works<\/a>\u00a0progressively.<\/p>\n The town council added that it would step up inspections of the common areas and continue to monitor the estate closely.<\/p>\n Have something to say?
