The caller then allegedly instructed her to show her bank card as well.

Concerned that the woman was about to reveal sensitive personal and banking information, Ng decided to step in.

“I think it’s a scam,” she told the woman, who promptly ended the call.

Ng typed an explanation on her phone to help the woman understand the situation and advised her not to share her banking or personal details with anyone over the phone.

Caller allegedly posed as police officer

Based on the call history shown on the woman’s phone, the caller appeared to be impersonating a police officer and had contacted her through an unknown email address.

After the call ended, Ng and the woman exchanged contact details, with the latter thanking her for stepping in.

Ng said the woman was from the Philippines and had moved to Singapore just three weeks earlier in search of employment.

“She didn’t expect to encounter scams like this here, and genuinely thought she had done something wrong when the ‘police’ called her,” Ng wrote.

Ng said approaching a stranger on the train felt “a little awkward”, but decided that it was important to offer help when someone appeared to be in trouble.

“You never know when a small act of courage can make a difference.”

AsiaOne has reached out to vitrealestate for comment.

[[nid:745089]]

asyiqin.nadzri@asiaone.com

A woman was stopped from potentially sharing her personal details with a scammer after a fellow commuter intervened during a suspicious phone call on the…

[2611

post-85873","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-buzz-headlines","wpcat-2611-id
["GET
