The air quality in Singapore has improved overnight with the 24-hour\u00a0Pollutant Standards Index\u00a0(PSI)\u00a0in the central region of the island returning to the moderate range.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">At <!-- -->7am<!-- --> on Sept 18, the 24-hour PSI reading in the area was 97,<!-- --> <!-- -->within the moderate range of 51 to 100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The central region\u00a0includes the Thomson, Marymount, Sin Ming, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Serangoon Gardens, MacRitchie and Toa Payoh areas, according to the National Environment Agency\u2019s (NEA) website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The region\u2019s 24-hour PSI dropped to 100 at 1am after hovering in the unhealthy range in the previous few hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The reading for that area hit 102 at 9pm, before inching up to 103 at 10pm, after a reprieve a day earlier, when readings across Singapore fell into the moderate range from 11am onwards.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"responsive-iframe-base st_visuals st_visuals-embed\" title=\"st_visuals embed\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/multimedia\/graphics\/2026\/08\/singapore-haze-widget\/index.html\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"accelerometer;falseclipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share;\" loading=\"eager\" data-testid=\"responsiveIframe\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The PSI for the central region stood at 102 at midnight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Readings in the north, south, east and west<!-- --> have remained in the moderate range since Sept 16.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The\u00a0PSI\u00a0readings were 90 for the west, 80 for the east, 73 for the\u00a0north and 69 for the south at <!-- -->7am<!-- --> on Sept 18, <!-- -->unchanged from those at 6am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Hourly PM2.5 readings, which indicate the current concentrations of fine particulate matter, were in the normal band for all regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">At at <!-- -->7am<!-- --> on Sept 18, the hourly PM2.5 readings\u00a0<!-- -->stood at 11<!-- --> in the south, <!-- -->12<!-- --> in the north, <!-- -->17<!-- --> in the east, <!-- -->20<!-- --> in central and 23 in the west.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The previous readings were eight in the south, 11 in the north, 18 in central, 20 in the east and 23 in the west at 6am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The NEA has advised the public to refer to the hourly PM2.5 readings for immediate activities and 24-hour PSI ones to plan for the day ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Air quality is considered unhealthy when the 24-hour PSI is in the range of\u00a0101 to 200, while an hourly PM2.5 reading between 56 and 150 indicates an elevated concentration of fine particles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">NEA has advised that during such periods, those who are healthy should\u00a0reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities, while vulnerable groups like the elderly, children and pregnant women, as well as people with chronic lung or heart disease, should minimise or avoid such outdoor activities altogether.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"portrait inline-media-wrapper\" style=\"--aspect-article-portrait:1080 \/ 1350\" data-testid=\"inline-media-test-id\">\n<div class=\"flex flex-col items-start relative w-fit\"><picture><source media=\"(max-width: 480px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/131c227bcbd6097fe818b224ffff2ca9b78cc628b863dd90bb56df2fb5835b55?w=480\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 720px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/131c227bcbd6097fe818b224ffff2ca9b78cc628b863dd90bb56df2fb5835b55?w=720\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 721px and max-width: 3999px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/131c227bcbd6097fe818b224ffff2ca9b78cc628b863dd90bb56df2fb5835b55?w=900\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 4000px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/131c227bcbd6097fe818b224ffff2ca9b78cc628b863dd90bb56df2fb5835b55\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/131c227bcbd6097fe818b224ffff2ca9b78cc628b863dd90bb56df2fb5835b55\" alt=\"\" class=\"aspect-portrait flex items-start shrink-0 portrait article-portrait object-contain mobile:w-auto tablet:w-auto\" data-testid=\"image-test-id\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/picture><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/haze-in-spore-air-quality-improving-with-central-region-now-in-moderate-range\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article At Source <\/a><br \/>\n<center\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SINGAPORE &#8211;
