The update will rollout for the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra first, before trickling down to other compatible Galaxy smartphones and tablets in phases.

One UI 9 first debuted on the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, which shipped with the software. Samsung has yet to release a complete rollout schedule or list of eligible devices for Singapore, however, so owners of older Galaxy phones may have to wait a little longer to find out when their turn will come.

As you might expect from any major Samsung update these days, AI takes centre stage and some of the more prominent features are MyFanCam, Now Brief and Creative Studio. If you have not read our Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra or Flip8 reviews (why haven’t you?), then let me give a very quick explanation on what these features/apps do:

My FanCam.

Image: Samsung

My FanCam is an AI-powered video editing feature that can track a selected person in a recorded clip and automatically reframe the footage to keep that person in the centre. It can also prepare the video in different aspect ratios for sharing on social media.

Now Brief is now more customisable than ever. One UI 9 introduces Generative and Editable Cards covering areas such as health, weather and video, allowing you to decide what information is relevant and appears in your daily summary.

Creative Studio gets an upgrade too and can now recommend image-generation ideas based on upcoming events. For instance, an approaching birthday could prompt the phone to create a themed greeting or image.

There are more, of course. Interpreter gains a Thread View that keeps earlier parts of a translated conversation visible, making it easier to follow what has already been said. Conversation Mode is also supposed to translate speech more quickly, while playback through compatible Galaxy Buds has been sped up to reduce pauses. Then Document Scan can now better handle curved book pages and papers with folded corners, while an improved Finger Eraser helps remove unwanted fingers from the finished scan.

These are not headline features, but I suspect will be very important quality-of-life improvements for those who use them frequently.

Samsung is expanding its Scam Detection feature to more countries and languages too, although the latest expansion only covers Japan, Canada and India. Considering how prevalent scam calls have become in Singapore, it is disappointing that we are not part of the initial expansion.

Galaxy S26 owners should receive a notification once One UI 9 becomes available for their device. They can also check manually by going to Settings, Software update and Download and install from 21 September.

Samsung is ready to bring One UI 9 to more Galaxy devices, with the Singapore rollout beginning on 21 September.
