A woman who was found sitting dangerously on a 16th-floor HDB stairwell ledge was rescued and taken to hospital on Monday (Sept 14) night.<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old was subsequently apprehended under Section 7(1) of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008, the police said in response to AsiaOne’s queries.<\/p>\n
The woman was seen in the precarious position just after 9pm on Monday at Block 123B Rivervale Drive, reported Shin Min Daily News.<\/p>\n
A resident living on the 17th floor, who gave her name as Feng Jingting (transliteration), told the Chinese paper that her son alerted her to the incident at about 11pm.<\/p>\n
Feng, 63, said her neighbour saw the woman perched on the ledge. Police officers and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel were at the scene.<\/p>\n
A photograph obtained by Shin Min showed the woman sitting sideways on the railing, facing the stairwell.<\/p>\n
When Feng later opened her door, she found SCDF officers outside her flat preparing rescue equipment.<\/p>\n
“I heard the woman say, ‘Nobody understands me’ twice, then the police told me to close the door,” the resident claimed.<\/p>\n
She added that the woman was rescued at about 11.25pm.<\/p>\n
The SCDF told AsiaOne it received a call for assistance at about 9.30pm on Monday.<\/p>\n
It deployed nets, and rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) rappelled from the unit above to rescue the woman.<\/p>\n
A safety life air pack was also set up at the foot of the block as a precautionary measure.<\/p>\n
