Final Fantasy 7 Revelation game director Naoki Hamaguchi is one such developer, as he explained that games like\u00a0The Witcher 3 and Horizon\u00a0helped inspire him and his team to deliver cinematic storytelling native to interactive media, as well as\u00a0player agency through customizability and scalable world exploration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Final Fantasy 6\u00a0was a very impactful title for me when I was playing the games when I was younger, when I was a child. But as a creator, I would say that The Witcher 3 would fill that role of what\u00a0inspired game creation,&#8221; Hamaguchi said to GameSpot. &#8220;When I started working on the Remake series, I would frequently go back to The Witcher 3 and just\u00a0marvel at the things that that game\u00a0excels at.\u00a0It&#8217;s a frequent one that I revisit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Final Fantasy VII Revelation - Release Date Reveal Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LRA759MHPJs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hamaguchi added that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake team also wanted to take a different approach to storytelling, as they didn&#8217;t just want to insert cutscenes into\u00a0the game world. Hamaguchi says he\u00a0studied how The Witcher 3 and Guerrilla&#8217;s Horizon created cinematic pay-offs within the framework of their gameplay mechanics. &#8220;We do have\u00a0to acknowledge that there are certain moments that bring satisfaction that can be only achieved by doing it within the video game medium,&#8221; Hamaguchi explained.\u00a0&#8220;I think that is exactly something that The Witcher 3 and games like Horizon were really excelling at, just delivering these satisfactory moments. They feel cinematic.\u00a0That was something that we were trying to\u00a0follow suit with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than a decade after its release, The Witcher 3 is still considered one of the greatest open-world games of all time, and it&#8217;s getting a massive remastered edition on September 29. Next year will also see the launch of an expansion, Songs of the Past,\u00a0which should help\u00a0with the long wait for The Witcher 4. Fortunately,\u00a0Final Fantasy fans won&#8217;t have to wait too much longer for the\u00a0final chapter in the remake series to land, as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch for PC and consoles\u00a0in April 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Square Enix is aiming to make this the biggest game possible, with\u00a0a\u00a0&#8220;planetary scale&#8221; world to jump into.
