{"id":85190,"date":"2026-09-15T20:19:02","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T12:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=85190"},"modified":"2026-09-15T20:19:02","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T12:19:02","slug":"trump-calls-ai-warnings-a-hoax-refuses-to-back-anthropic-and-openai-requests-for-guardrails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=85190","title":{"rendered":"Trump Calls AI Warnings a &#8216;Hoax,&#8217; Refuses to Back Anthropic and OpenAI Requests for Guardrails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Donald Trump has called AI safety warnings a \u201choax\u201d in response to claims the technology has a greater than 10% chance of killing all humans.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Last week, an Anthropic safety researcher claimed there is a greater than 10% chance that AI \u201ccould kill all humans\u201d within the next decade, admitting there is no coordinated plan to prevent it from happening.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Since then, the bosses of the major AI tech companies have called for a global slowdown in AI development, and requested the U.S. government impose guardrails \u2014 such as a kill switch that can be checked by a third party \u2014 on AI. But in a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump made his position clear.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Trump said there was a \u201cSICK conspiracy\u201d underway to undermine AI development, and insisted he alone would prevent AI from going rogue. He compared AI safety concerns to what he called the \u201cGlobal Warming Scam,\u201d and called for an acceleration in data center development.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cThe people that say AI is going to destroy the World, and that Data Centers are bad for your neighborhood, are the same people that said, just a short time ago, that the World would be extinguished by \u2018Climate Change,\u2019\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cThat HOAX never worked out for them, and now they\u2019re on to the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">The U.S. president called himself &#8220;the Hoax Buster,\u201d saying the only &#8220;guardrails&#8221; needed for AI was a &#8220;strong and smart&#8221; president.<\/p>\n<p><output class=\"box-wrapper jsx-2673806401\"><\/p>\n<figure class=\"jsx-313219616\"><img alt=\"null\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"progressive-image article-image article-image-full-size jsx-1809694635 jsx-2338608387\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-cy=\"progressive-image\"\/><figcaption data-cy=\"caption\" class=\"caption jsx-1762799490 jsx-479945570 article-image-caption\">Trump displayed on Robert the Robot, an advanced conversational humanoid developed by Geneva-based technology company RB Labs. Huang, himself an opponent of AI regulation, put Trump on speakerphone for a conversation that has since gone viral on social media.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cI\u2019m telling you it\u2019s all a hoax,\u201d Trump said as Huang help up a microphone to a phone. \u201cData centers are great and they make people wealthy and they make states wealthy. It\u2019s the oil of the next 20-25 years. It\u2019s bigger than the internet. They\u2019re just playing right into the hands of a lot of people who don\u2019t want to see it happen. They could be political people. It could also be China. And we\u2019re not going to let that happen.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cThe robots are not gonna be taking over the world. These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources. We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cThe people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible \u2014 but I hear the same people express fear privately. Attempting to speedrun alignment should require extraordinary confidence that there are no better trajectories available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Coxon went on to say he was optimistic about the potential for coordination, but doubted AI companies were on track to prevent a global race, \u201cwhich may require costly actions such as a temporary ban on improving model capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">He ended his statement by urging AI lab researchers to consider what they were doing. \u201cDo you want to kick off a superintelligent RL run without a rigorous understanding of its mind?\u201d he asked. \u201cShould you put your head down because \u2018it\u2019s happening anyway\u2019 &#8211; or take this moment to call for different conditions?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Coxon\u2019s statement sent shockwaves throughout social media, sparking alarm and a string of mainstream headlines. It was backed up by Evan Hubinger, Anthropic\u2019s \u2018Alignment Science\u2019 lead, who added an even starker warning.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cJacob is correct here \u2014 we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!&#8221; <u>he said<\/u>. \u201cI personally think it is &gt;10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">In recent days, Altman, Anthropic boss Dario Amodei, and Grok boss Elon Musk have all suggested their willingness to work together to slow down AI development. Altman has said this \u201cpacing\u201d would not mean \u201cstopping.\u201d In a social media post, he said: \u201cProgress has been rapid and will continue to be. But it should be slower than it otherwise could be; interventions like safety cases and monitoring have significant costs. Pacing will be well worth this cost; no amount of American competitive pressure should justify recklessness, or let capabilities get ahead of alignment and monitoring. Where we will need the help of our government is for international coordination. But first we should do what we can ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><output class=\"box-wrapper jsx-2673806401\" data-cy=\"article-video\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">In further posts, Trump said the U.S. already has \u201ctremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cThe only control or \u2018guardrails\u2019 that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">He insisted he had already prevented AI companies from doing \u201cbad, or potentially bad, \u2018things,\u2019\u201d and singled out Anthropic boss Dario Amodei for \u201cnow pretending to be a \u2018perfect little angel.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">According to CNN, some White House officials are worried about Trump\u2019s lack of concern about the dangers of AI amid growing public skepticism and fear of the technology. <\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Vice President JD Vance said Monday that the administration is &#8220;concerned&#8221; about the technology, but said AI companies calling for government oversight feels like a &#8220;Trojan horse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">&#8220;It&#8217;s something that we&#8217;re concerned by, but we want to make sure that we actually regulate smartly, and we&#8217;re thoughtful about the risk here,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, there are obviously risks to AI. There are some benefits to AI.
