6. iPhone Duo cases to look out for<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\nNew Apple iPhone 18 and iPhone Duo releases<\/h2>\n As we detailed in our news coverage and hands-on, one of the notable differences between the iPhone Duo and its competitors \u2013 namely the Galaxy Z Fold8 \u2013 is that it\u2019s more substantial in size and weight. Despite being the thinnest iPhone at 5.2mm when unfolded, the iPhone Duo is still quite hefty, weighing 254g.\u00a0That camera island (or camera plateau, as Apple calls it) also protrudes out the back of the Duo by quite a bit, so it\u2019s susceptible to severe damage if the phone lands on its back after a drop.<\/p>\n
Given the $3,099 starting price of the iPhone Duo, this is definitely one phone you wouldn\u2019t want to drop and have it cracked or scratched. If you\u2019ve already decided to spend at least three grand on Apple\u2019s first foldable iPhone, we\u2019ve compiled a list of iPhone Duo cases that you can shop for as well, in order to protect your shiny new toy.<\/p>\n
Can the iPhone Duo have a case?<\/h2>\n Yes. In fact, as we\u2019ll show in our list below, Apple has its own cases for the iPhone Duo already. However, as foldables have a more complex build than regular slab phones, their cases are almost more complex to make. Cases for the iPhone Duo can come in either two pieces, for both sides of the foldable phone, or in one piece, which often also protect the hinge. Some cases may also protect the border on the inner display, while some won\u2019t.<\/p>\n
How do you put a case on an iPhone Duo?<\/h2>\n This is a pertinent question for the Duo especially as its front display is edge-to-edge, which doesn\u2019t leave negative space for any potential cases to hang on to. Companies will implement different measures to ensure that the case will still latch on to the side of the iPhone Duo with the front screen; this includes using PU strips, or attaching via magnets.\u00a0<\/p>\n
More complex cases will have protection for the hinge, and that necessitates some unique designs to ensure that it can cover the hinge without impeding its movement.<\/p>\n
What are considered the best iPhone cases?<\/h2>\n There\u2019s many different cases for different purposes. Cases from brands such as Spigen and UAG are typically known for durability rather than style, so they have a reputation for being bulkier \u2013 though some of their slimmer cases do attempt a more classy look. Other brands like Casetify, or even Apple\u2019s own cases, tend to prioritise looks over durability. With cases from these brands, you may get more colour options, or more stylised (or minimalist) designs, but they may not have drop protection that\u2019s as good as bulkier cases.<\/p>\n
Do also note what material the case is made out of. Many cases you\u2019ll find nowadays are made of either TPU, which tends to be more flexible and has greater shock resistance, which is stiffer and is more scratch resistant.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s the safest case for an iPhone?<\/h2>\n If you\u2019re looking for something that has pure durability, you will have to get used to having a bit of bulk on your phone for protection. As mentioned above, brands like UAG, Spigen, and others like OtterBox are known for making durable cases. For the iPhone Duo specifically, look for something that protects the camera raised camera plateau (or camera island). Also take note if the case you\u2019re looking at has a raised lip around the display. This helps to protect the screen from scratches whenever you put it face down.<\/p>\n
iPhone Duo cases to look out for<\/h2>\n Before we get into the list, do note that most of these cases are either in pre-order or not available yet, as the iPhone Duo will only ship in October. We\u2019ve noted down which cases aren\u2019t available yet. We\u2019ll also update this list closer to the iPhone Duo\u2019s availability.<\/p>\n

This is probably going to be the default option for most iPhone Duo buyers, even if the price for a phone case is a little high (though the iPhone Duo already starts at $3,099). Apple\u2019s iPhone Duo Case is a two-piece polycarbonate case that attaches magnetically to the phone. It\u2019s also MagSafe-compatible, so you can leave it on while wirelessly charging your Duo. Apple is advertising it as capable of protecting the Duo from scratches and drops, though do take note that it\u2019s a rather thin case. It does, however, protect the border on the inner display.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, as the iPhone Duo will only be available later in October, Apple\u2019s first-party cases themselves are not available for purchase yet either.<\/p>\n

This is a durability-oriented case coming from UAG, which has a reputation for making sturdy phone cases. The Mouve XTE in particular is made out of a polycarbonate backplate and a line of TPU surrounding it, and it\u2019s also passed MIL-STD-810G 516.6 shock resistance tests, which is a big boost for drop protection. It also has a kickstand, a magnetic module built into the case that makes it MagSafe compatible, and a phone ring grip.<\/p>\n

This is the second of Apple\u2019s first-party Duo cases. Unlike the iPhone Duo Case, the Duo Folio Case also protects the front display by having a folio cover over it. The case itself attaches to the Duo magnetically, and has a kickstand, too. Another notable feature of this case is its hinge protection, accomplished by the hinge cover sliding out of both sides of the folio case. One downside to this compared to the iPhone Duo Case, however, is that this does not have protection around the border of the inner screen.<\/p>\n
Like the iPhone Duo Case, the Duo Folio Case is not available yet, either. It\u2019ll likely be available to order once the iPhone Duo starts shipping on 23 October.<\/p>\n

Spigen is well-known for making cases that are perhaps a little bit less fashionable, but incredibly durable. The Tough Armor Pro (Mag Fit) is one of those cases that prioritises protection first. Made out of polycarbonate and TPU, the Tough Armor Pro (Mag Fit) also features what Spigen calls a \u201cPro hinge protector\u201d, which is a pretty beefy hinge cover that also holds the two halves of the case together. Take note that this case isn\u2019t available yet, however. Like Apple\u2019s cases, it\u2019ll probably be available closer to the day the iPhone Duo begins to ship.<\/p>\n
