Two children were filmed sitting on the floor of a supermarket eating snacks, with several other items scattered around them.<\/p>\n
The nine-second video, shared on Facebook page Singapore Incidents on Sept 13, shows a boy and a girl digging into snacks such as chocolate eggs and biscuits, while no adult appears to be nearby. The girl is also seen looking at a phone.<\/p>\n
No date or time of the incident was given although the caption said it happened at Giant Hypermarket<\/a> Tampines.<\/p>\n The clip has racked up more than 106,000 views, 275 reactions and 180 comments.<\/p>\n Some netizens assumed the snacks had not been paid for and blamed the children\u2019s parents.<\/p>\n \u201cFree food,\u201d said one, while another asked: \u2018Where are the parents?\u2019<\/p>\n Another commented: \u201c100 per cent the parents\u2019 fault.\u201d<\/p>\n Others, however, were critical of the person filming the children and questioned why the person did not alert supermarket<\/a> staff or intervene.<\/p>\n \u201cDid the cam fella get the attention of the staff there?\u201d asked a netizen. \u201cYou didn\u2019t tell them off?\u201d another said, addressing the original poster.<\/p>\n Several people were also uncomfortable with the children being filmed.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s right to post images of children or minors,\u201d one netizen said. \u201cWhy are we so unkind to kids?\u201d another asked.<\/p>\n Yet another wrote: \u201cWhy take their video and post? They are only kids, we should protect them.\u201d<\/p>\n One commenter defended the children.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen my children (were) small, they would sometimes do this, but I would still keep the opened packets and pay for them at the cashier.\u201d<\/p>\n Others felt the matter could have been handled more simply.<\/p>\n \u201cNot a big deal, collect all the food wrappers and get the guardian and parents to pay for it,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n There were racist comments alluding to the children\u2019s ethnicity, but these prompted some users to push back.<\/p>\n Others felt that the short clip may not have provided the full story.<\/p>\n \u201cAre you guys so sure about them not paying before they consumed the food? Let\u2019s not jump to conclusions before we get to know what happened, not fair to them too,\u201d one person wrote.<\/p>\n Several commenters took a more sympathetic view.<\/p>\n \u201cThey must be hungry,\u201d said one. \u201cMaybe they were just hungry, and had no money\u2026 so they walked into the supermarket to help themselves,\u201d another speculated.<\/p>\n Stomp has reached out to Giant for comment.<\/p>\n Have something to say?
