WhatsApp could be giving its iPad app a much-needed navigation makeover.<\/p>\n
According to WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is testing a Mac-like sidebar<\/b> that would make it easier for iPad users to jump between different sections of the app. Currently, the navigation bar sits at the bottom of the iPad screen, which can feel somewhat awkward on a larger display.<\/p>\n
The redesigned sidebar would provide quick access to Chats, Updates, Communities, Calls, and Meta AI. A separate More section would house additional features such as Locked, Archived, Starred, Status, and Favourites.<\/p>\n
The sidebar can also be hidden<\/b> for users who prefer a more traditional interface. When hidden, WhatsApp reportedly replaces it with a tab bar at the top of the screen, while the chat list and conversation panel move towards the centre.<\/p>\n
For iPad users, the change could make WhatsApp feel more like a proper tablet app rather. It would also bring the iPad and Mac experiences closer together, which should make switching between Apple\u2019s devices feel more familiar.<\/p>\n
The feature is currently being tested with a limited group of WhatsApp beta users. There is no word yet on when the redesigned interface will be made available to everyone, and WhatsApp could still change or scrap the feature before its wider rollout.<\/p>\n
