But they include enough improvements that might even tempt owners of last year’s phones to update.

Physically, the new phones look and feel mostly identical to their predecessors. The iPhone 18 Pro still has a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch screen. The overall dimensions are also unchanged, but I thought the 18 Pro Max felt heavier. Indeed, poring over the spec sheets, I discovered that the 18 Pro Max is 16g heavier, while the smaller 18 Pro weighs 5g more. Being a fan of the colour blue, Glacier is obviously my favourite. It’s a striking shade of light blue that accentuates the strong lines of the phone’s frame. Burgundy is a very deep shade of red, and to my eyes, it looks almost brownish in some instances. Oh, not to worry, there’s still Silver.

The changes this year are all under the hood. There’s the faster A20 Pro chip, larger batteries, a main camera that now has lenses with variable apertures, and pro controls for the camera. As you’d expect, these phones feel fast. And given that I only had a few minutes to handle the phone, I can’t say anything meaningful about battery life.
