{"id":83724,"date":"2026-09-10T09:25:01","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T01:25:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=83724"},"modified":"2026-09-10T09:25:01","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T01:25:01","slug":"air-quality-in-central-singapore-remains-in-unhealthy-range-as-psi-hits-105","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=83724","title":{"rendered":"Air quality in central Singapore remains in unhealthy range as PSI hits 105"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"text-primary article-summary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 Air quality in central<!-- --> <!-- -->Singapore has <!-- -->remained in <!-- -->the unhealthy range overnight, with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in the region <!-- -->at 105 as at 7am on Sept 10.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">PSI in the central region had entered the unhealthy range at 11pm on Sept 9, when the PSI hit 102 and continued to creep upwards overnight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Readings in the north (76), south (78), east (82) and west (86) remained in the moderate range as at 7am on Sept 10.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Haze in Singapore began an uptick again recently when the PSI in the central part crossed 101 early on Sept 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Since then, readings in central, eastern and western parts of Singapore have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/psi-in-western-singapore-hits-102-joins-central-region-in-having-unhealthy-air?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">occasionally crossed into the unhealthy range<\/span><\/a> before dipping back into the moderate spectrum.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"responsive-iframe-base st_visuals st_visuals-embed\" title=\"st_visuals embed\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/multimedia\/graphics\/2026\/08\/singapore-haze-widget\/index.html\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"accelerometer;falseclipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share;\" loading=\"eager\" data-testid=\"responsiveIframe\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In an advisory on Sept 9, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the 24-hour PSI is forecast to range from higher end of the moderate category to the lower end of the unhealthy spectrum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">NEA said that it continues to observe moderate to dense smoke plumes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/volunteers-fight-uphill-battle-against-indonesian-fires?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">fires in southern and central Sumatra as well as Kalimantan<\/span><\/a>, adding that some haze also drifted towards Singapore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cWith prevailing winds blowing from the south-east or south, there remains a risk of smoke haze affecting Singapore should the fires persist,\u201d the agency said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The recent developments mark the first time the PSI in Singapore hit unhealthy levels due to haze since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/multimedia\/graphics\/2023\/10\/haze-returns-singapore-2023\/index.html?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">October 2023<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Air quality is considered unhealthy when the PSI is in the range of 101 to 200, during which NEA advises the public to cut down on outdoor activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">PSI readings of 51 to 100 are considered moderate, while values of 0 to 50\tare in the \u201cgood\u201d range.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why this year\u2019s haze in Singapore could be as bad as 2015\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NzYyUPVfVQM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
