SINGAPORE \u2013 About 50 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a warehouse in the Jurong industrial area on the afternoon of Sept 8, with firefighters still on the scene working to extinguish the blaze completely more than four hours later.<\/p>\n
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at 10 Penjuru Road at about noon, and that the blaze involved a warehouse within the premises.<\/p>\n
Checks by The Straits Times show that the address is that of an MFT-GXO logistics warehouse.<\/p>\n
Further checks show that companies housed at the site include dormitory operator Yeo\u2019s Bro Management; construction and engineering equipment rental company Heng Yew Engineering & Construction; and shipbuilding and repair firm Apex Offshore & Engineering.<\/p>\n
In a Facebook post at about 1.30pm, SCDF said firefighters were working to put out the fire, which was confined to the warehouse, using four water jets and a firefighting machine.<\/p>\n
About 50 people were evacuated from the premises before SCDF officers arrived at the scene, with no injuries reported.<\/p>\n
In an update at around 1.50pm, SCDF said that the fire involved used household items that were stored inside the warehouse, which measures about 20m by 10m.<\/p>\n
It added that another water jet was used to help fight the fire, bringing the total number of water jets used to five.<\/p>\n
Public transport operator SBS Transit said in a post on social media platform X at about 1.10pm that bus services 30 and 201 had been diverted owing to a road closure along Penjuru Road between Teban Gardens Crescent and West Coast Road.<\/p>\n
When The Straits Times arrived at the scene at about 2pm, a thick column of black smoke could be seen rising above the industrial area. At least two fire engines were seen at the site, with firefighters still working to put out a blaze.<\/p>\n
In a later update at around 4.05pm, SCDF said that the fire had been largely extinguished, with some deep-seated pockets of fire remaining.<\/p>\n
\u201cDamping down of the affected area is expected to continue throughout the day,\u201d it said, referring to the process of adding water to wet burnt surfaces to prevent rekindling of fires.<\/p>\n
In a Facebook post at 4.50pm, West Coast-Jurong West GRC MP Cassandra Lee thanked the SCDF for their prompt response to the fire and the Land Transport Authority for diverting buses to ensure road safety.<\/p>\n
She also expressed her gratitude to the grassroots leaders and volunteers for keeping residents updated.<\/p>\n
Fires at industrial premises rose 27.5 per cent from 98 fires in 2024 to 125 in 2025, based on the SCDF\u2019s annual statistics report<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n On the whole, there were 3 per cent more fires in Singapore in 2025, with total cases numbering 2,050 that year \u2013 up from 1,990 in 2024.<\/p>\n
