Sony has come out with great active noise cancellation headphones over the years, but the Sony WH-1000XM4 still holds a special place in many people\u2019s hearts because it is the last 1000X Series model that can fold up compactly into a small case.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sony WH-1000XM4C<\/h2>\n
The Japanese tech giant clearly knows this, and they\u2019ve just launched the new Sony WH-1000XM4C<\/b> headphones, which not only come with the same foldable design, but also an updated sound signature and upgrades like support for the newer Bluetooth 6.0<\/b> standard.<\/p>\n
The headphones remain mostly unchanged from their predecessor, with the same design and finish. Pulling out my personal pair of WH-1000XM4s for a look, the only difference I can spot for the black model is that the WH-1000XM4C has gone with silver accents for the Sony logo and exterior microphone on the earcup instead of copper, as well as the addition of L and R on the inside of the earcup for easier recognition.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sony WH-1000XM4C in carrying case<\/p>\n Photo: Sony<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The weight is almost the same at 253g (as opposed to 254g), and the WH-1000XM4C gets the same compact carrying case, as well as a 3.5mm headphone cable. That being said, there\u2019s no included flight adapter or USB-C cable with this model, which is a bit of a bummer.\u00a0<\/p>\n Internally, there aren\u2019t many changes either. The WH-1000XM4C is still equipped with the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1<\/b>, along with the same 40mm<\/b> drivers and 4-microphone array for noise cancellation and calls.\u00a0<\/p>\n We reckon the noise cancellation performance will still match the original, although it\u2019s most likely not on the level of Sony\u2019s newer headphones since those have two noise-cancelling processors.<\/p>\n However, Sony is claiming it has tweaked the tuning of the headphones to more closely match the richer sound of the newer WH-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM6 headphones. Thanks to the new Sony Sound Connect app, the old 5-band equaliser is now replaced with a more comprehensive 10-band<\/b> option for more precise EQ tweaks.<\/p>\n Battery life does get a slight drop from 30 hours down to 27 hours<\/b> with ANC turned on, but it\u2019s still more than enough to get you through even the longest plane rides without an issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sony WH-1000XM4C<\/p>\n Photo: Sony<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n With an RRP of S$419<\/b>, Sony is clearly positioning these new headphones right under the latest WH-1000XM6 (RRP S$649, currently S$509 discounted) headphones. It makes plenty of sense, since people who want the newest and greatest can get those, while people who value a more compact design will likely opt for the new WH-1000XM4C.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Sony WH-1000XM4C comes in Black, Platinum Silver and Lavender, and will be available in Singapore from September 2026. There are also updates to the midrange and entry-level headphones in the form of the new WH-CH730N<\/b> and WH-CH530<\/b>. These headphones get new colours, an update to Bluetooth 6.0<\/b> and support for the new LC3<\/b> codec.<\/p>\n The WH-CH730N gets an upgrade to 50 hours<\/b> of battery life (previously 30 hours), while the WH-CH530N gets 55 hours<\/b> of battery life, up from 40 hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sony WH-CH530<\/p>\n Photo: Sony<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The Sony WH-CH730N retails at S$169<\/b> and will be available from the end of September 2026, with the Sony WH-CH530 retailing at S$79<\/b> and available from mid-September onwards.
