{"id":82930,"date":"2026-09-07T14:10:53","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T06:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=82930"},"modified":"2026-09-07T14:10:53","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T06:10:53","slug":"pm-wong-chan-chun-sing-to-deliver-ministerial-statements-on-governments-response-to-political-office-holders-salary-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=82930","title":{"rendered":"PM Wong, Chan Chun Sing to deliver ministerial statements on government&#8217;s response to political office holders&#8217; salary review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>SINGAPORE: The review of political office holders&#8217; salaries will be in focus when parliament sits on Tuesday (Sep 8).<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong as well as Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing will deliver the government&#8217;s response to the review of salaries for political appointment holders and members of parliament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ministerial statements will be debated under standing order 44 on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Under the standing order, no amendments are allowed and the motion will not be put to a vote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In January, <span>Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing said that a<\/span>n independent committee had been convened to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/political-office-appointment-holders-salary-be-reviewed-5852886\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">review the salaries of political office holders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The salary framework covers the pay of all political appointment holders as well as <span>MPs and NMPs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In May, Mr Chan said that the committee had completed its work, but <span>the government had decided to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/salary-review-political-office-holders-defer-middle-east-conflict-impact-6103876\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>defer consideration of its recommendations<\/span><\/a><span> due to the uncertainty caused by the Middle East conflict.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The government will release the committee&#8217;s report together with its response at an appropriate time, he said then.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The salary framework and political salaries have not been adjusted since they took effect in May 2011.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The current salary framework was established by a review committee in 2012, with the government agreeing with its recommendation that the framework would be reviewed by an independent committee every five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A subsequent committee was formed in 2017 to review the 2012 framework.
