It’s been three years since Final Fantasy <\/em>fans have been able to play as Clive Rosfield, the main protagonist of 2023’s Final Fantasy XVI.<\/em> Final Fantasy Resonance,<\/em> a forthcoming turn-based role-playing game developed by Square Enix, aims to change that.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Final Fantasy XVI <\/em>received mixed reception, largely because it shifted to an action-oriented combat system in which players controlled Clive’s melee attacks, dodges, and special Eikon abilities in real time. Resonance <\/em>returns to the strategic, turn-based combat style that earlier franchise titles were known for and features familiar faces such as the Dominant of Ifrit.<\/p>\n It’s no surprise to see Clive returning \u2014 after all, he was voted the second-most popular series protagonist in a 2023 poll (second only to Cloud Strife, who will also be making an appearance in Resonance).<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Clive Rosfield is one of several Final Fantasy<\/em> fan favorites returning to Resonance<\/em> as part of the game’s Visions system. Visions function similarly to the summoning mechanics from earlier games and allow players to call on echoes of Final Fantasy <\/em>heroes to assist their characters in battle. Visions add magic power, new attack types, and stat bonuses depending on the character behind the Vision. Summoning Clive invokes the power of the Eikon Ifrit, dealing massive fire damage to enemies.<\/p>\n Clive is among more than a dozen Final Fantasy <\/em>characters confirmed to return, including the Warrior of Light, Firion, Luneth, Terra, Cecil, Bartz, Cloud, Squall, Zidane, Tidus, Shantotto, Vaan, Lightning, Y’shtola, and Noctis.<\/p>\n Final Fantasy Resonance<\/em> is due out on October 22, 2026. It is a single-player game inspired by the mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius <\/em>and shares that game’s main cast, including knights Rain and Lasswell.
