{"id":82381,"date":"2026-09-05T11:24:03","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T03:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=82381"},"modified":"2026-09-05T11:24:03","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T03:24:03","slug":"singapore-tax-revenue-rises-9-4-to-97-3-billion-amid-strong-economic-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=82381","title":{"rendered":"Singapore tax revenue rises 9.4% to $97.3 billion amid strong economic growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"text-primary article-summary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) collected <!-- -->$97.3<!-- --> billion in tax revenue in the <!-- --> 2025\/2026 <!-- -->financial year, up 9.4 per cent from the previous financial year, driven by stronger economic activity and consumer spending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">According to IRAS data dating back to 2002, this marks the highest tax collection on record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The sum accounted for<!-- --> 74.8<!-- --> per cent of the Government\u2019s operating revenue and was equivalent to 12.3 per cent of Singapore\u2019s gross domestic product.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Corporate income tax remained the largest source of revenue, rising to <!-- -->$34.4<!-- --> billion from $30.9 billion in the previous financial year, and accounting for 35.4 per cent of total collection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Goods and services tax was the second-largest contributor at <!-- -->22.3<!-- --> per cent, bringing in $21.7 billion, up from $20 billion previously, reflecting higher consumer spending. Individual income tax collections rose to <!-- -->$20.9<!-- --> billion from $19.1 billion, making up 21.5 per cent of total tax revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Property tax and stamp duty contributed <!-- -->$6.9<!-- --> billion and $7.3 billion respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Betting tax contributed <!-- -->$3.6 billion<!-- -->, while withholding tax contributed $2.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">IRAS also processed close to $1.2 billion in<!-- --> grants<!-- --> and payouts to about 126,200 businesses during the year, through various support schemes such as the Progressive Wage Credit Scheme, Senior Employment Credit and Central Provident Fund Transition Offset.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The tax authority said compliance remained strong, with arrears for income tax, GST and property tax at <!-- -->0.64<!-- --> per cent of net tax assessed<!-- --> \u2013 <!-- -->slightly lower than the 0.66 per cent previously, according to the latest IRAS annual report.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"portrait inline-media-wrapper\" style=\"--aspect-article-portrait:960 \/ 1326\" data-testid=\"inline-media-test-id\">\n<div class=\"flex flex-col items-start relative w-fit\"><picture><source media=\"(max-width: 480px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/d16ce92637e3e5d04ad55ab1e6737daffd8d1f097475dd1e6dcd79c7a909f273?w=480\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 720px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/d16ce92637e3e5d04ad55ab1e6737daffd8d1f097475dd1e6dcd79c7a909f273?w=720\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 721px and max-width: 3999px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/d16ce92637e3e5d04ad55ab1e6737daffd8d1f097475dd1e6dcd79c7a909f273?w=900\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 4000px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/d16ce92637e3e5d04ad55ab1e6737daffd8d1f097475dd1e6dcd79c7a909f273\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/d16ce92637e3e5d04ad55ab1e6737daffd8d1f097475dd1e6dcd79c7a909f273\" alt=\"\" class=\"aspect-portrait flex items-start shrink-0 portrait article-portrait object-contain mobile:w-auto tablet:w-auto\" data-testid=\"image-test-id\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/picture><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It audited and investigated<!-- --> 8,560<!-- --> cases involving taxpayers who wilfully evaded taxes, recovering about $589 million in taxes and penalties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">From April 2028, GST-registered businesses will progressively be required to join the InvoiceNow network and submit invoice data directly to IRAS, with the roll-out continuing in phases until April 2031.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">IRAS is also pressing ahead with efforts to make digital services the default.
