morning of <!-- -->Sept 5,<!-- --> making it the third region in the country to record <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/haze-in-singapore-psi-crosses-101-in-central-region-as-air-quality-enters-unhealthy-range?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">unhealthy levels of pollutants <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/haze-in-singapore-psi-crosses-101-in-central-region-as-air-quality-enters-unhealthy-range?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">since Sept 4<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">At <!-- -->7am<!-- -->, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) stood at <!-- -->119<!-- --> in the Central region, with the reading for the East <!-- -->dipping to<!-- --> <!-- -->99<!-- --> and<!-- --> West at 102<!-- -->.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The reading for the <!-- -->North (85) and South (88)<!-- --> remained in the moderate range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Air quality is considered unhealthy when the PSI is in the range of 101 to 200, during which the National Environment Agency (NEA) advises the public to cut down on outdoor activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The West crossed the 101 threshold at approximately midnight, checks by The Straits Times showed.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"responsive-iframe-base st_visuals st_visuals-embed\" title=\"st_visuals embed\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/multimedia\/graphics\/2026\/08\/singapore-haze-widget\/index.html\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"accelerometer;falseclipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share;\" loading=\"eager\" data-testid=\"responsiveIframe\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The PSI for the East had moved into the unhealthy level at about 9pm on Sept 4 <!-- -->where it had remaine<!-- -->d <!-- -->before dipping at 7am on Sept 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Sept 5 PSI reading means the Central region of Singapore has now had unhealthy levels of pollutants in the air for over a day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The last time the PSI hit unhealthy levels due to haze was in October 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In a Sept 4 advisory, the NEA said the haze <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/environment\/singapore-air-quality-on-sept-5-from-high-moderate-to-mid-unhealthy-range-nea?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">could persist till Sept 5<\/span><\/a>, with air quality forecast to be between the higher end of the moderate and the middle of the unhealthy range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The agency said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/analysis-finds-unchecked-businesses-to-blame-for-raging-wildfires-in-indonesia?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">smoke plumes from fires<\/span><\/a> in the southern and central parts of Sumatra and various parts of Kalimantan were observed to be drifting towards Singapore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As dry conditions are forecast for the coming days, Singapore may
