They are also a key part of the country’s cultural identity and were recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.<\/p>\n These large, often open-air complexes house numerous stalls that offer local and international dishes.<\/p>\n There are 123 markets and hawker centers in Singapore, ranked the world’s second richest country by GDP per capita in 2025 after Switzerland by the Economist<\/em>.<\/p>\n Singapore was recently named one of world’s 20 best street food cities by British magazine Time Out<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
\nSingapore will temporarily close 85 hawker centers and markets for one to three days this month for scheduled cleaning as part of efforts to maintain clean and hygienic facilities.\t<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n
