Dry weather conditions, along with warm and humid nights, are expected to continue in the first fortnight of September, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said on Tuesday (Sept 1).\u00a0<\/p>\n
During this period, daily maximum temperatures are likely to range between 33 and 35 deg C on most days, and could even exceed 35 deg C on a few days, the weatherman said.<\/p>\n
There may not be much reprieve at night, with conditions forecast to be “warm and humid”.<\/p>\n
Minimum temperatures are expected to stay above 27 deg C on most nights, the agency added.<\/p>\n
But localised short-duration thundery showers are also expected over parts of the island in the late morning and afternoon on some days.<\/p>\n
“Fair and occasionally windy conditions are expected on most days, especially during the first week of September,” MSS said.<\/p>\n
Turning to dry conditions in the region, MSS said it has observed an escalation in the hotspot and smoke haze situation.<\/p>\n
It noted that dense smoke haze was observed over southern and central Sumatra and various parts of Kalimantan on most days since around Aug 21.<\/p>\n
“Under the prevailing south-easterly or south-westerly winds, Singapore may experience hazy conditions should the fires intensify,” the agency cautioned.<\/p>\n
The National Environment Agency will provide daily haze advisories should the 24-hour Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) in Singapore cross into the “Unhealthy” range.<\/p>\n
As at 5pm on Sept 1, the 24-hour PSI in Singapore remains within the moderate range.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The city state experienced dry conditions in the second fortnight of August, with fair weather on most days.<\/p>\n
Localised short-duration showers fell over parts of the island on some days, but well-below-average rainfall was recorded across the island, with Admiralty recording rainfall of about 99 per cent below average.<\/p>\n
The highest rainfall recorded \u2014 53.8mm at Telok Blangah \u2014 during the period was on Aug 30, when regional wind convergence brought moderate to heavy thundery showers over the eastern, southern, and central parts of Singapore in the early morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, daily maximum temperatures exceeded 34 deg C on most days.<\/p>\n
The highest daily maximum temperature of 35.5 deg C was recorded at Seletar on Aug 25.<\/p>\n
There were also several nights when minimum temperatures remained over 27 deg C, MSS said.<\/p>\n
