A family of three and a drinks stall owner got into a heated argument at a coffee shop in Sembawang Road over whether a water bottle could be placed on their table.<\/p>\n
The three-minute video, which appears to have been recorded by the drinks stall owner of Chong Pang Nasi Lemak coffee shop, was shared by Facebook user @Bella lux on Aug 30.<\/p>\n
In the video, a young man and his parents question why the stall owner will not allow them to place a water bottle on the table<\/a> where they are seated.<\/p>\n The stall owner explains that it is the coffee shop\u2019s rule and points out that a “banner\u201d has already been put up, asking the family to look at it.<\/p>\n He adds that they can place the bottle on a chair instead, and says the rule does not apply to children, but points out that all three family members are adults.<\/p>\n The family challenges the rule, while the stall owner says he will continue to remove the bottle if it is placed on the table.<\/p>\n The argument escalates, with the older man calling the stall owner an \u201cah kua\u201d \u2014 a derogatory colloquial term typically used to refer to an effeminate man or a transgender.<\/p>\n The family insists that the chair is for sitting and that the bottle should be placed on the table .The stall owner can then be heard saying: \u201cWhy do you have to do this? I already told you nicely.\u201d<\/p>\n The video has garnered more than 579,000 views, 2,000 reactions and 1,500 comments.<\/p>\n It was also shared on Instagram page @sgfollowsall<\/a>, where it has racked up more than 122,000 views, 1,500 likes and 210 comments.<\/p>\n The younger man in the video, who identified himself as Brandon, shared his family\u2019s side of the story in an Instagram post on Aug 31.<\/p>\n He alleged that the video did not show the full incident and claimed the stall owner had thrown their water bottle out of the coffee shop<\/a> twice.<\/p>\n According to Brandon, his father retrieved the bottle the first time, while his mother picked it up the second time. He said this was when his father became \u201cvisibly angry and upset\u201d.<\/p>\n He also alleged that the stall owner challenged his father to a fight at the back alley, which his father refused, and said he has since made a police report.<\/p>\n He also said he has a recording of what happened.<\/p>\n \u201cI am unable to disclose or share it at this time as the matter is currently under police investigation,\u201d he wrote in the post.<\/p>\n Brandon also apologised to his LGBTQ+ friends and the wider community for his father\u2019s remarks during the altercation.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope everyone can avoid making premature conclusions based solely on the video currently circulating.\u201d<\/p>\n In response to Stomp\u2019s queries, the police confirmed that a report was lodged.<\/p>\n Stomp has reached out to the original poster Bella Lux for more details.<\/p>\n Netizens appeared split over who was to blame.<\/p>\n
