The typical kernels would include walnuts, almonds, olive kernels, melon seeds and sesame seeds, which symbolised the virtues of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and trustworthiness \u2013 in that order.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Long before white lotus seed paste or modern snow-skin flavours took over the market, <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">wuren<\/em> was the undisputed king of mooncakes across mainland China and Hong Kong. In times of material scarcity, the calorie-dense components of rich nuts, Jinhua ham and cured pork fat were highly precious, luxury food items.
