Any Singapore-registered vehicle found without a VEP anywhere in Malaysia will be subject to enforcement action,\u201d Malaysian news outlet <!-- -->Bernama<!-- --> quoted <!-- -->Datuk Aedy<!-- --> as saying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">He added that drivers who have been issued fines will not only have to settle them immediately, but also complete their VEP registration before leaving the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cThis measure is intended to prevent any complications at the Malaysia-Singapore border,\u201d Mr Aedy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The VEP tag, which is <!-- -->RFID-enabled,<!-- --> allows the Malaysian authorities to identify foreign-registered vehicles on the country\u2019s roads and keep track of any outstanding fines for traffic offences, which have to be settled before the vehicles exit the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Payments for the fines can be made at <!-- -->JPJ counters, JPJ mobile counters, the VEP registration counter at Danga Bay, or online through the MyEG system<!-- -->, said Mr Aedy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/malaysia-to-begin-vep-enforcement-for-singapore-vehicles-from-july-1?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">Since enforcement began on July 1,<\/p>\n<p><\/a> he said 4,028 writs of summons had been issued, with the total amount of fines imposed more than RM1.2 million (S$373,067).<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">On Oct 21, Malaysian media reported that there were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/almost-4000-singapore-drivers-fined-360000-in-total-for-entering-johor-without-vep-tag?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">3,910 writs of summons issued<\/p>\n<p><\/a> \u2013 with each costing RM300 \u2013 across three locations in Johor Bahru.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The majority were issued at the two land checkpoints<!-- --> <!-- -->at Woodlands and Tuas, while the rest were given out at Taman Daya, a suburb near Mount Austin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As at Oct 31, Mr Aedy said 303,183 of the VEP tags had been installed in private vehicles.
