Singapore will host the Pokemon World Championships for the first time in 2027, bringing some of the world\u2019s leading Pokemon players here for three days of TCG and video game battles.<\/p>\n
The tournament will run from 13 to 15 August<\/b> at the Singapore Expo<\/b>. Interestingly, the event will not remain there for the entire weekend. Championship Sunday<\/b>, when the various grand finals are held, will move across the island to the Singapore Indoor Stadium<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokemon World Championships in San Francisco, which concluded yesterday. It is a pretty big prize for Singapore: The event has only previously ventured outside the United States three times, visiting Vancouver in 2013, London in 2022 and Yokohama in 2023. Singapore will therefore become only its fourth overseas host, as well as the first in South-east Asia.<\/p>\n
For those unfamiliar with competitive Pokemon, the World Championships is essentially the finale of the year-long Championship Series. Players must first qualify through official tournaments in their respective regions before earning the opportunity to compete for a world title.<\/p>\n Spectators and non-competitive participants can also look forward to exclusive merchandise.<\/p>\n Image: The Pokemon Company<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n For Singapore and other participating Asian regions, the 2026-27 season includes the Great Ball League, Ultra Ball League, Premier Ball League and Master Ball League. Competition is divided between the Pokemon Trading Card Game and the Video Game Championships, with the latter now played through Pokemon Champions. Pokemon Go will also return for the 2027 World Championships with a new three-player team format. Pokemon Unite, however, is leaving the Championship Series and will instead receive a separate in-person event.<\/p>\n The World Championships is also typically a spectator event, with side activities, exclusive merchandise and opportunities to watch the matches live in person.
