More than 130 artists aged between 55 and 90 are set to take the stage for the coming second Hong Kong Creative Aging Arts Festival, a powerful celebration of how the arts can help seniors lead happier lives<\/p>\n
Running from September 9 to 20 at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre in Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon, the mainly Cantonese event will feature more than 40 performances, including an opening performance titled Measuring Love<\/em> directed by the award-winning UK theatre director Alan Lyddiard.<\/p>\n Other highlights include a drama production by Guangzhou\u2019s Third Act Theatre, visual art exhibitions, and talks focusing on creativity and well-being during later life stages.<\/p>\n The festival is organised by Arts\u2019 Options, a non-profit charity established in 2011 to provide creative outlets and training for senior citizens in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want to create a ripple effect that continuously [influences] others,\u201d says Rebecca Po Wan-ting, the charity\u2019s executive director. \u201cWe want more members of the general public to understand the importance and the benefits of elderly arts.\u201d<\/p>\n The goal is not just fun, but also to give seniors the confidence to be cast in a professional environment, Po says.
