{"id":80907,"date":"2026-08-31T05:45:04","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T21:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=80907"},"modified":"2026-08-31T05:45:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T21:45:04","slug":"mega-projects-in-singapores-roadmap-unlock-investment-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=80907","title":{"rendered":"mega-projects in singapore\u2019s roadmap unlock investment opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"text-primary article-summary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->Singapore\u2019s latest push to develop new infrastructure, expand tourism offerings<!-- --> <!-- -->and accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence could open up a multi-decade investment story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Prime Minister Lawrence Wong\u2019s announcements during his National Day Rally speech on Aug 23 have laid out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/ndr2026-gives-sporeans-reasons-to-be-confident-in-the-future-despite-external-uncertainty-analysts?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">broad road map for the country\u2019s next phase of development<\/span><\/a>, with several proposed mega projects potentially generating long-term investment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Afdhal Rahman, executive director of wealth advisory at OCBC Bank, said the initiatives could create<!-- --> <!-- -->new avenues for growth across a range of sectors over the next 50 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Infrastructure, construction companies and<!-- --> <!-- -->utilities and power providers are among the most direct beneficiaries, while tourism-related plans could support airlines, hotels, entertainment businesses, food and beverage operators and transport companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Banks and other financial institutions could also benefit as the projects generate stronger demand for corporate and infrastructure financing, Afdhal said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">One of the most significant proposals is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/environment\/western-island-reclamation-will-create-space-for-industries-low-carbon-energy-sources-analysts?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">potential merger of Pulau Semakau, Pulau Bukom and Pulau Sudong with smaller islands into a single larger western island.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Semakau is currently home to Singapore\u2019s only landfill, while Bukom houses the country\u2019s first refinery. Sudong, meanwhile, has an airstrip used by the Singapore Armed Forces during emergencies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The expanded land area is envisioned primarily for industrial and power-related use, creating potential long-term opportunities for companies with established capabilities in infrastructure, utilities and clean energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">For Singapore\u2019s industrial incumbents, their existing infrastructure and expertise could put them in a strong position should the project move forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">But investors may need to be patient, as these are proposed long-term projects and any earnings contribution will not be immediate, Afdhal said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The western island<!-- --> <!-- -->proposal is still at the feasibility-study stage, with no firm timeline or budget committed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Tourism offers another potentially significant avenue for growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Plans to link Sentosa and Pulau Brani into a single leisure destination<!-- --> <!-- -->\u2013<!-- --> <!-- -->alongside the development of a new Downtown South resort, enhanced attractions and improved connectivity \u2013 are aimed at strengthening Singapore\u2019s position as a global tourism hub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The initiatives are aligned with the Government\u2019s broader Tourism 2040 ambitions and signal a continued commitment to attracting visitors, encouraging longer stays and increasing tourism spending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cOver the medium to long term, this could benefit airlines, hospitality operators and hotel-focused Singapore real estate investment trusts through stronger visitor arrivals, longer stays and higher visitor spending,\u201d Afdhal said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A stronger tourism ecosystem could boost<!-- --> <!-- -->not only accommodation providers, but also businesses across the wider visitor economy, including attractions, restaurants, retailers and transport operators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Afdhal noted that PM Wong\u2019s renewed commitment to supporting productivity improvements and AI adoption through grants and co-funding schemes could provide an additional tailwind for Singapore\u2019s burgeoning tech sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Companies providing AI-related training programmes and software tools could benefit as more small and medium-sized enterprises accelerate their digitalisation efforts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Government\u2019s push to accelerate the deployment of autonomous vehicles could provide another emerging opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Singapore has already been used as a test bed for autonomous vehicle trials, including in Punggol.
