Traffic Police (TP) is trialling the use of average speed enforcement on Singapore’s expressways as more accidents resulting in injuries were recorded in the first half of 2026, even as traffic accident-related deaths fell in the same period.<\/p>\n
In its mid-year traffic situation update<\/a> released on Friday (Aug 28), TP highlighted that the overall traffic situation remains worrying.\u00a0<\/p>\n From January to June, Singapore recorded a total of 60 fatal road accidents, with 61 people killed, while there were 78 fatal accidents and 79 deaths in the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n The dip was largely due to fewer deaths among motorcyclists and pillion riders.<\/p>\n But the authority said the overall accident and casualty counts have continued to increase, with the number of accidents resulting in injuries increasing by 3.2 per cent to 3,869 in the first half of 2026 \u2014 up from 3,748 in the same period last year.<\/p>\n “The trends above underscore the need for sustained enforcement and public education,” TP said in its report.<\/p>\n “Speed remains a key factor in road safety.”<\/p>\n Lower speeds give motorists more time to react and avoid collisions.
