A <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/trending-now\/accidents-involving-cyclists-surge-4-year-high-over-770-cases-2025-road-safety-worsens?ref=inline-article-9593924\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"noopener\">bicycle<\/a> is also parked nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The woman then gets down to her knees, gesturing to the bicycle, while one of the officers approaches her, gesturing vigorously. text-grayscale-800\">In response to Stomp\u2019s queries, an LTA spokesperson said that the agency empathises with the distress experienced by the elderly cyclist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The spokesperson pointed out that cycling on overhead bridges is an offence as it can pose safety risks to pedestrians, and officers carried out enforcement duties in line with the rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cIn this instance, while our officers had to carry out their enforcement duties, they could have managed the situation more sensitively,\u201d the representative explained, adding that the officers have reflected on the incident and recognise that they \u201ccould have handled the situation with greater empathy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The agency will continue to strengthen officers\u2019 training to manage situations sensitively, while ensuring safety rules are applied fairly and consistently to all users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Stomp understands that the woman was given a notice of offence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">According to the <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/sso.agc.gov.sg\/Act\/AMA2017?ProvIds=P13-P22-#pr15-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Active Mobility Act<\/a>, individuals who ride bicycles, power-assisted bicycles, personal mobility devices, or motor vehicles on pedestrian-only paths face a fine not exceeding $2,000, imprisonment not exceeding three months, or both, for their first offence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Repeat offenders face a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"lg:text-28 lg:leading-33.6px pt-md font-primary text-24 font-bold leading-1.2\">Enforcement \u2018has to be fair\u2019: Netizens<\/h2>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">In the comments section of the Reddit post, some netizens supported the enforcement officers, saying that rules had to be \u201cunbiased and equal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cLaw enforcement has to be fair, just because you kneel and beg does not mean you can get away scot-free,\u201d the netizen said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Another netizen agreed that cycling on overhead bridges was dangerous: \u201cI ever crossed an <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/singapore-seen\/two-men-climb-over-road-divider-near-nibong-lrt-station-when-overhead-bridge-just?ref=inline-article-9593924\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"noopener\">overhead bridge<\/a> before and someone rode on it at super high speed, and it is very dangerous for kids and elderly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">One user, who said they lived near the bridge, explained that people cycling across it were a \u201cconstant sight and pain in the a**\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">However, others rallied behind the woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cWe need to be a more gracious society,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"bg-primary-100 h-px border-0 mt-lg md:mt-xxl\"\/>\n<div class=\"flex flex-col gap-xl rounded-xl
