President and CEO of The Pok\u00e9mon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, shared a small bit of insight about the company\u2019s possible future plans with wearable technology during a panel discussion at the inaugural Pok\u00e9monXP in San Francisco, CA. <\/p>\n

During the Producing Pok\u00e9mon: A Conversation with Mr. Ishihara panel at the main Pok\u00e9monXP stage, Ishihara spoke about how Pok\u00e9mon has evolved alongside major technological shifts in handheld gaming and wireless connectivity over the years. He said after smartphones arrived, they had to change their approach a little to accessories. <\/p>\n

\u201cIn the past, these gadgets or companion accessories [like the Pok\u00e9walker and Pok\u00e9monGO Plus] were kind of like these cool secret weapons you could pull out of your pocket and do something really cool with,\u201d Ishihara said, \u201c<\/strong>but today I was thinking, going forward, maybe a challenge for us is going to be figuring out how we can integrate Pok\u00e9mon more with some of the wearable technology, like smart watches, smart glasses, or even smart rings, for example.\u201d
The comment comes on the tail of the reveal of the Fitbit Air Special Edition Pok\u00e9mon Sleep, a wearable health tracker with full connectivity to Pok\u00e9mon Sleep, a Pok\u00e9mon app that essentially gamifies sleep into collecting Pok\u00e9mon. <\/p>\n

Ishihara is also the founder and previous CEO of Creatures Inc., a co-owner of the Pok\u00e9mon franchise alongside Nintendo and Game Freak, who together make The Pok\u00e9mon Company International. Ishihara has experienced the complete history of the franchise, from Pok\u00e9mon Red and Pok\u00e9mon Green to the conception of the anime and trading card game. During the panel, Ishihara said he\u2019s always loved handheld gadgets and toys and is particularly passionate about them. <\/p>\n

\u201cI really hope Pok\u00e9mon and the people who are stewarding it will continue to be creating entirely new forms of play that really excite people. And also that humanity, in general, will continue to really enjoy those experiences. And maybe even across three or four generations in the future,\u201d Ishihara said.<\/p>\n
