Vivant\u2019s new Venus G2<\/b> Portable Electronic Wine Chiller<\/b> is the sleek, high-tech alternative that looks perfectly at home on a kitchen counter while offering granular control over the temperature of the wine being chilled.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With 77.8% of wine volume sold<\/u> in Singapore in 2023 being through off-trade outlets like supermarkets and specialist retailers, it\u2019s clear that more people are choosing to enjoy wine in the comfort of their home.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Additionally, the premium wine market (bottles over S$70) climbed by 11.3%<\/u> in the first half of 2024, meaning more people are looking at quality. The transparent window lets you show off the bottle you\u2019re currently drinking, and there\u2019s an ambient light that automatically turns on when the machine senses a bottle or Vivant Wine\u2019s own carafe being placed inside.\u00a0<\/p>\n The chilling comes from two Peltier cooling plates, one that comes into contact with the back of the bottle and one on the bottom. Thanks to this, if you keep the entire bottle in, the Venus G2 is able to maintain its temperature between 8\u00b0C and 20\u00b0C<\/b>.<\/p>\n The decanter carafe chills wines better compared to a bottle.<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n However, if you require even more intense cooling (perhaps for sweet ice wine or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc), the machine is able to go down to as cold as 4\u00b0C and maintain that temperature<\/b>, but that\u2019s provided you use Vivant\u2019s own decanter carafe, since it has thinner walls than a wine bottle.\u00a0<\/p>\n The machine doesn\u2019t have to be a white elephant on the kitchen counter when not drinking wine, however, since you can fill the carafe with water, soft drinks or any other beverages that you want to keep cold.\u00a0<\/p>\n The machine can be adjusted via the knob or through the companion app.<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n There\u2019s also a timer function to help with keeping track of decanting times. Everything is displayed clearly on the display at the top of the machine, and can be tweaked via the knob.\u00a0<\/p>\n The wine chiller is also relatively portable at just 2.69kg, and can be used wirelessly with a 5,500mAh swappable battery<\/b> that can last up to four hours. Running a proprietary in-house engine and trained exclusively on wine data sourced from wine publications, official appellation, and regulatory bodies and producer registries, the AI Sommelier covers millions of labels across 50+ countries and 200,000+ producers.<\/p>\n The app allows users to scan wine labels to get information such as suggested food pairings, ideal serving temperatures, as well as a recommended decanting time. It was able to recommend wine pairings even for local dishes. When asked for a few recommendations under $50, two out of the three options provided fulfilled the criteria, while the last one just exceeded the budget slightly.
