WhatsApp is rolling out three security enhancements designed to make it harder for scammers to gain access to your account and easier for users to identify suspicious calls.<\/p>\n
WhatsApp introduced passkeys almost a year ago, and the company says more than one billion users<\/b> have now enabled the feature.<\/p>\n
The latest update makes passkeys more flexible. Users can now add more than one passkey<\/b> to their WhatsApp account, which is particularly useful if they regularly switch between Android and iOS devices.<\/p>\n
Passkeys allow users to sign in using the device\u2019s built-in authentication method, such as a fingerprint or face scan, instead of relying on a traditional password.<\/p>\n
WhatsApp is also beefing up its two-step verification system.<\/p>\n
Instead of relying solely on the familiar six-digit PIN, users can now create a full password containing letters, numbers, and special characters<\/b>. A longer, more complex password should be significantly harder to guess or crack.<\/p>\nMore information about unknown callers<\/h2>\n
WhatsApp is also giving users more context when they receive calls from unfamiliar numbers.<\/p>\n
For Android users<\/b>, the app will show information such as the country associated with the caller\u2019s number<\/b> and whether you share any groups<\/b> with the caller. This could provide useful clues when deciding whether a call is legitimate or something better left unanswered.<\/p>\n
While Singapore\u2019s scam situation improved during the first half of 2026, the problem remains significant. According to the Singapore Police Force, victims lost S$410.6 million to scams during the period, while authorities disrupted 37,500 WhatsApp lines<\/b> linked to scam activities.<\/p>\n
WhatsApp\u2019s latest security measures won\u2019t eliminate scams, but they could make it harder for scammers to take over accounts or disguise their identities.<\/p>\n
