Three individuals, all Indian nationals, were charged by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) on Thursday (Aug 27) for harbouring immigration offenders in separate cases.<\/p>\n
The trio \u2014 Patil Shubham Bhagwan, 27; Laddi, 31; and, Chumber Dheeraj Kumar, 37 \u2014 were accused of harbouring immigration offenders, in three separate cases, with reckless disregard as to whether the offenders’ respective stay in Singapore was valid.<\/p>\n
Patil allegedly harboured 19-year-old Indian national Sharma Kartik in his Chai Chee Road residential unit from September 2025 till April this year.<\/p>\n
This was despite Sharma’s visit pass having expired on September 8 last year.<\/p>\n
Laddi committed the same offence by allegedly harbouring 31-year-old Indian national Gulshan in a unit in Yishun Ring Road from December 2025 until May this year.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old had remained unlawfully in Singapore after the expiry of his visit pass in April 2023.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Chumber, is accused of harbouring 36-year-old Sidhu Harpreet Singh in a unit in Jalan Rumah Tinggu from May to August this year.<\/p>\n
Sidhu’s visit pass expired on April 30 this year.<\/p>\n
Immigration offenders \u2014 Sharma and Gulshan \u2014 have since completed their respective sentence and have been deported from Singapore. They are also barred from re-entering Singapore.<\/p>\n
Sidhu was convicted and fined $4,000.<\/p>\n
In its statement, ICA said it takes a firm stance against anyone who harbours immigration offenders.<\/p>\n
“Those who wish to rent out their premises must exercise due diligence in checking the immigration status of their prospective foreign tenants to ensure that their stay in Singapore is legal,” said the authority.<\/p>\n
Anyone found guilty of recklessly or knowingly harbouring overstayers or illegal immigrants faces a mandatory jail term of between six months and two years, along with a fine of up to $6,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, anyone found guilty of negligently harbouring overstayers or illegal immigrants faces a fine of up to $6,000 and\/or up to 12 months’ jail.<\/p>\n
