No part of this story can be reproduced without permission from 8days.sg.<\/em><\/p>\n Malaysian host and former radio DJ Louis Loh booked a capsule hotel during a recent trip to Singapore in order to save money. Instead, what he got was a priceless lesson.\u00a0<\/p>\n The 26-year-old, who’s better known as Ah Lo (\u963f\u7f57<\/span>),\u00a0is in Singapore from August 22 to 30 to represent Malaysia with ZWL Dragonboat Team at the 2026 Singapore Canoe Sprint Championships.<\/p>\n To save costs, Louis and four teammates booked a 12-bed capsule room in Little India, sharing it with other travellers. But things turned awry the day after they checked in.<\/p>\n When they returned from their competition that afternoon, another guest who had been staying there for more than a month showed them a video recording of what had happened that morning.<\/p>\n In it, someone could be heard screaming, and according to Louis, it was no minor outburst.<\/p>\n “The screaming reportedly lasted around 15 to 30 minutes. In between the screaming, there was also crying, as well as sounds of kicking and banging against the capsule,\u201d he tells 8days.sg.<\/p>\n Louis later shared the video clip Instagram, and let’s just say the blood-curdling screams aren’t exactly easy on the ears.<\/p>\n “Both my friend and I were really frightened when we heard the screaming. It was quite intense and honestly gave us goosebumps,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n Louis later encountered the woman himself, though by then the issue wasn’t screaming.<\/p>\n On the night of August 23, she appeared to have trouble opening her locker and repeatedly tried different password combinations.<\/p>\n “I politely asked if she needed help or if she wanted me to contact the hotel for her, but she didn’t respond, so I decided not to approach her further,” he says.<\/p>\n She eventually gave up, but tried again the following night.<\/p>\n Hotel staff were called in but couldn’t open the locker either, and reportedly told her they would have to wait until the next day for someone who could.<\/p>\n Everyone went back to sleep, but Louis says the woman soon resumed trying different combinations, disturbing the other guests.<\/p>\n At some point, the police were called in.\u00a0<\/p>\n Louis isn’t sure whether the woman or hotel staff contacted them, but two officers arrived and stayed until someone from the hotel eventually came to open the locker.<\/p>\n He later learnt that the woman apparently had a 5am flight the following morning, which may explain why she was so determined to retrieve her belongings.<\/p>\n Louis also stresses that she did not scream again after the August 23 incident, and never physically attacked him, his teammates or the other guests.<\/p>\n He also tells us that he, his friends and other guests had requested to be moved elsewhere after they heard about\u00a0the earlier screaming incident.<\/p>\n “Since each capsule only has a simple curtain separating it from the rest of the room, we were worried that she might suddenly lose control and do something unexpected,” he explains.<\/p>\n The hotel told them it needed to speak with the woman before deciding what to do and later relayed her apology to the guests.<\/p>\n When we asked if the group considered changing hotels, Louis says:\u00a0“We had already paid for our accommodation. The main reason we chose a capsule hotel in the first place was to save money, so moving to another hotel would have meant spending much more.\u201d<\/p>\n While Louis understands there may have been limits to what the hotel could do since the woman hadn’t physically harmed anyone, he still wishes she had been moved.<\/p>\n “Personally, I just hoped they could have moved her at that moment. We felt that would have been the best solution for everyone’s safety and peace of mind,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n Despite the experience, Louis tells us he isn’t swearing off capsule hotels.<\/p>\n “I believe this was an isolated incident. I would still stay at a capsule hotel again,\u201d he shares.<\/p>\n “Overall, I’d say the trip has been quite an exciting one,\u201d Louis laughs.<\/p>\n Just probably not the Singapore memory anyone expects to bring home.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
