Singaporeans shopping for home broadband have spent the past few years watching advertised speeds climb from 1Gbps to 3Gbps, 5Gbps and now 10Gbps. But as speeds increased, so too has the performance from our local service providers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In this year\u2019s report<\/u>, StarHub is Singapore\u2019s most awarded Internet service provider, winning four of five awards for Reliability<\/b>, Consistent<\/b> Quality<\/b>, Upload<\/b> Speed<\/b>, and Video<\/b> Experience<\/b>. Singtel won the final category for Download<\/b> Speed<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
That is a significant change from two years ago<\/u>. Back then, MyRepublic was the provider to beat, winning both Download<\/b> Speed<\/b> and Peak<\/b> Download<\/b> Speed<\/b> outright while sharing the Consistent<\/b> Quality<\/b> and Video<\/b> Experience<\/b> awards with ViewQwest. StarHub\u2019s only outright victory was Upload<\/b> Speed<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Two years later, StarHub sits at the top of almost everything Opensignal measures. The twist here being that MyRepublic Broadband is now wholly owned by StarHub<\/u>.<\/p>\n
The headline results from Opensignal\u2019s August 2026 report are:<\/p>\n

What do the numbers mean?<\/h2>\n

While StarHub clearly leads in the number of awards, its wins cover several aspects of broadband performance that arguably say more about everyday usability than maximum advertised speed.<\/p>\n

Consistent Quality <\/b>measures how often a connection is good enough to meet the requirements of commonly used applications, taking factors including download and upload speed, latency, jitter, packet loss and time to first byte into account. In other words, it looks beyond whether a broadband connection can hit a big number on a speed test.<\/p>\n
StarHub scores 86.0%, ahead of MyRepublic at 84.1%, Singtel at 83.6%, M1 at 81.9%, SIMBA at 80.9%, and ViewQwest at 73.0%.<\/p>\n
\n Reliability is an important measurement for consumers.<\/p>\n

The gaps between the leading providers aren\u2019t enormous, but StarHub\u2019s position becomes more interesting when you <\/b>consider Reliability<\/b>. Here, StarHub scores 754 points, ahead of MyRepublic at 715 and Singtel at 702.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For households where a broadband connection is simultaneously carrying Teams calls, cloud backups, streaming video, and gaming over multiple connected devices, those measures can matter considerably more than whether the fibre plan says 5Gbps or 10Gbps on the box.<\/p>\n
Singtel is still the download speed king<\/h2>\n

The one category StarHub didn\u2019t win went to Singtel for Download Speed<\/b>, with Opensignal recording an average of 248.0Mbps<\/b> for Singtel, narrowly ahead of StarHub at 242.1Mbps<\/b>. MyRepublic places third at 214.9Mbps<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Importantly, these figures aren\u2019t measurements of the maximum speeds offered by the broadband plans themselves. Opensignal defines Download Speed as the average download speed users experience over Wi-Fi across an operator\u2019s broadband network when downloading data from an application host or CDN<\/b>. In other words, the results reflect the speeds people experience on their connected devices rather than whether an ISP can deliver the 3Gbps, 5Gbps or 10Gbps advertised with its fibre plans.<\/p>\n
The more striking comparison comes when looking back to 2024. MyRepublic then led Download Speed at 164.9Mbps<\/b>, followed by StarHub at 153.9Mbps<\/b>, and Singtel at 145.8Mbps<\/b>. Compare these figures to 2026, where Singtel\u2019s latest score is 248.0Mbps, about 70% higher<\/b> than its May 2024 result, while StarHub\u2019s 242.1Mbps is up about 57%<\/b>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Singtel has effectively gone from third place in 2024 to first in 2026, while MyRepublic has moved in the opposite direction, despite its measured speed also increasing substantially.<\/p>\n
The results aren\u2019t controlled like-for-like network benchmarks, as Opensignal\u2019s measured user base and Singapore\u2019s broadband market have changed over the past two years. Even so, they point to a substantial improvement in the average Wi-Fi download experience measured by Opensignal. For most households, that real-world performance may ultimately matter more than the theoretical maximum speed of the fibre connection coming into the home.<\/p>\n
What is clear is how dramatically the competitive picture has changed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In 2024, MyRepublic was the name filling Opensignal\u2019s winner circles, while StarHub had a solitary Upload Speed victory. Two years later, StarHub has four of the five awards, Singtel has the fifth, and MyRepublic is now owned by StarHub anyway.<\/p>\n
For Singapore broadband customers, that may be the bigger story behind all those speed-test numbers. Connections are getting faster, but the market behind them is becoming increasingly consolidated.<\/p>\n
