The authorities are also looking to involve young people themselves in preventing crime.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cCrime prevention messaging definitely needs to evolve alongside the way young people communicate,\u201d said Dr Alhadad.<\/span><\/p>\n She said NCPC has increasingly adopted more interactive and participatory approaches to engage youths.<\/span><\/p>\n One example is its Delta Challenge, which encourages young people to develop their own ideas on crime prevention issues, including shop theft, and find creative ways to raise awareness among their peers.<\/span><\/p>\n The NCPC is also exploring more youth-led programmes, with the aim of giving young people a greater say in how such issues are addressed.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe want youth to see themselves not just as recipients of crime prevention messages, but as active contributors, and advocates for safer communities,\u201d said Dr Alhadad.<\/span><\/p>\n Going forward, the council is also looking at creating more opportunities for early conversations with young people across schools, families and communities.<\/p>\n It is also exploring the use of \u201crestorative practices\u201d in schools when young people make mistakes.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cChildren are young people (and they) are bound to make mistakes. What can we do to repair that?\u201d asked Dr Alhadad.<\/p>\n
