Apple has cut more than 200 positions<\/b> across the Vision Pro and Siri teams.<\/p>\n
According to Bloomberg, roughly half of the layoffs came from the Vision Pro division<\/b>, where the company is reportedly winding down a team focused on developing games for its spatial computing headset.<\/p>\n
The cuts also extend to the team behind Immersive Video, one of Vision Pro\u2019s headline features that delivers 180-degree spatial video experiences.<\/p>\n
Bloomberg reports that Apple plans to produce fewer in-house Immersive Video titles in the future, while encouraging third-party creators and production studios to build more content for the platform instead. That\u2019s not surprising given these films cost a lot to produce and there aren\u2019t that many active users.<\/p>\n
Despite the restructuring, the Vision Pro remains part of Apple\u2019s long-term roadmap. A next-generation model is reportedly still planned for late 2028.<\/p>\n
The restructuring also affected around 100 employees working on Siri. Because Siri AI is built on a new architecture, the expertise Apple now needs has changed.<\/p>\n
The Intelligent Systems Experience<\/b> team, which contributes to Apple\u2019s broader AI efforts, is also being reorganised to better align with the company\u2019s evolving priorities.<\/p>\n
In a statement to 9to5Mac, Apple said \u201ca limited number of existing roles\u201d were affected as it continues evolving the business to deliver the best experience for users.<\/p>\n
The company added that it is grateful for the affected employees\u2019 contributions and will support them through the transition, including giving them opportunities to apply for other roles within Apple.<\/p>\n
The layoffs also fit into a broader pattern that has emerged this year. Earlier reports suggested Apple had paused development of a more affordable Vision Pro model, and teams working on the headset were reportedly reassigned to new projects as the company increased its focus on smart glasses.<\/p>\n
