A mother has raised safety concerns after she spotted a man riding what appeared to be an e-scooter without a helmet in Punggol<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Stomper, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was in the passenger seat of a car travelling along Edgefield Plains and heading towards Oasis Terraces at around 10.40am on Aug 23 when she noticed the rider.<\/p>\n Her seven-year-old child was the one who first pointed him out.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was in another lane. Didn\u2019t realise until my kid asked me why the uncle on the bike did not wear a helmet,\u201d she told Stomp.<\/p>\n She said her child was concerned because they had previously heard and seen news reports about accidents involving riders.<\/p>\n Photos shared with Stomp show a man in a grey shirt riding a two-wheeled device on the road. He was not wearing a helmet.<\/p>\n A black top box was attached to the rear of the device, with a small plush dragon affixed to it. Additionally, the plate at the back of the device appeared to be a customised plate instead of an official one.<\/p>\n The plate attached to the device appeared to be a customised plate without a registration number.<\/p>\n PHOTO: STOMP<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n The Stomper said she was concerned about the potential danger<\/a> posed to both the rider and other road users.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel it is good to let everyone know, safety first,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n She also believed that e-scooters should not be ridden on roads, and wanted to share this with Stomp to remind road users to follow the rules.<\/p>\n According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), e-scooters are allowed only on cycling paths<\/a> and are prohibited on roads and footpaths.<\/p>\n E-scooters must also be registered with LTA and display a Registration and Identification Mark bearing its LTA-assigned registration number.<\/p>\n These can be made at any signcraft stores and must conform with LTA\u2019s specifications.<\/p>\n LTA said those caught riding an e-scooter on footpaths may face fines of up to $2,000<\/a> and\/or up to three months\u2019 jail if convicted.<\/p>\n Have something to say?
