A dispute between a long-haired young man and an elderly man at a food court in Yew Tee allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with the younger man seen raising a chair before grabbing the other man\u2019s neck and pushing him to the ground.<\/p>\n
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident happened at around 10pm<\/a> on Aug 22 at the Kopitiam food court on the second floor of Yew Tee Square.<\/p>\n The two men were reportedly arguing in front of a stall selling herbal soup.<\/p>\n A video uploaded to the r\/SingaporeRaw subreddit<\/a> in the early hours of Aug 23 shows the young man, who is wearing a brown top, arguing with the older man, who is dressed in a white top with stripes.<\/p>\n At the start of the video, the elderly man can be heard saying in Hokkien: \u201cDon\u2019t threaten me.\u201d He then tells the younger man to stop looking at him.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m looking at you?\u201d the younger man responds.<\/p>\n The elderly man replies: \u201cYou want to call someone? Go call!\u201d<\/p>\n As the pair raise their voices, the older man repeatedly challenges him: \u201cSo? What\u2019s wrong with looking at someone?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou want me to hit you?\u201d the younger man responds.<\/p>\n He appears to walk away, but the older man then shouts: \u201cI\u2019ll wait for you.\u201d<\/p>\n The younger man then tells other diners nearby in Mandarin: \u201cThis person is asking to die.\u201d<\/p>\n After the older man responds with a Hokkien vulgarity, the situation quickly escalates.<\/p>\n The younger man picks up a chair and appears to threaten the elderly man with it.<\/p>\n He then grabs the elderly man by the neck and moves backwards, pushing him to the ground.<\/p>\n The younger man also loses his balance and falls.<\/p>\n The person filming can be heard trying to stop the confrontation, but to no avail. After the elderly man falls, a nearby diner helps him back up and the video ends shortly after.<\/p>\n After the video was shared online, some netizens made references to a recent incident involving a wanton mee hawker at Roxy Square.<\/p>\n On Aug 15, Bei-Ing Wanton Noodle hawker Yeo Song Khoon was involved in an altercation<\/a> after he patted a young girl\u2019s head at his stall, reportedly upsetting her parents.<\/p>\n The girl\u2019s father allegedly pulled and threw Yeo to the ground, causing him to suffer a fracture. Yeo\u2019s alleged assailant has since been i<\/a>dentified by the police<\/a>.<\/p>\n One commenter joked: \u201cWah so who touch whose child?\u201d<\/p>\n Others remarked that the diners nearby appeared relatively calm and did not seem to intervene.<\/p>\n When Shin Min reporters visited the food court on Aug 23, a female employee at a nearby stall said she had heard \u201ca bout of arguing\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n She later saw medical personnel and several police officers at the scene.<\/p>\n When asked about the identities of the two men and whether they were regular customers, the employee declined to comment.<\/p>\n Staff at other stalls also declined to provide further information.<\/p>\n In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at around 10.10pm at Block 624 Choa Chu Kang Street 62.<\/p>\n SCDF conveyed one person to Woodlands Hospital.<\/p>\n The police told Stomp they received a call for assistance at 9.55pm.<\/p>\n A 75-year-old man was conveyed conscious to hospital, while a 50-year-old man is assisting with investigations.<\/p>\n Police investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n Have something to say?
