{"id":78806,"date":"2026-08-23T11:21:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T03:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=78806"},"modified":"2026-08-23T11:21:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T03:21:00","slug":"bites-to-bytes-thai-street-food-app-feeds-into-hunger-for-authenticity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=78806","title":{"rendered":"Bites to bytes: Thai street food app feeds into hunger for authenticity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Bangkok\u2019s best street food has always existed on a kind of mental map for Thai food writer Choltanutkun Tun-atiruj.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">It is built from habit, cravings and neighbourhood rhythms: the office crowds, the schools, the university nearby and the vendors selling everything from <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">moo ping<\/em> (grilled pork skewers) and sticky rice to pad thai and <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">kuay teow reua<\/em> \u2013 a bowl of rice noodles in dark broth flavoured with cow or pig\u2019s blood, then topped with meat and spices.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cI can\u2019t tell you my favourite because I rotate between vendors, depending on what I\u2019m craving that day, but ever since I moved to this area a few years ago, I\u2019ve never had to order anything on [food delivery and ride-hailing super-app] Grab ever again,\u201d said Choltanutkun, who lives in Sukhumvit in the heart of the Thai capital.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Officials are now trying to turn mental maps like hers into a more formal one.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">The Thai Street Gold Star app, developed by the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion and Suan Dusit University, was launched in late July.
